Poked around our new property yesterday. Ive never been up close to a silo before.

They're cool :)

A couple pics...

I told her to make a farmer face. When I took the pic she was in the middle of saying "what kind of face does a farmer make? WTF!"

[laugh]

Were set up to close 7-29. As soon as we do I'm going right up that ladder :D

Congratulations....just 4 acres short of 40 acres and a mule...

Make sure the water and soil is thoroughly tested and cleared, especially if you are within 100 miles of a major urban area

A lot of late-night urban toxin dumping went on in the rolling hills and fields of paradise

Among a couple others, well and septic testing are contingencies.

have you checked with the local municipal people? if the place has an up to date septic the permit should be on file there, and you can find out all kinds of other interesting stuff too. just ask the clerk for the file on (insert lot, book, map info here)

if there is no record, then the septic is probably some old cess pool type, and a bad thing. of course, if you are planning on building new anyway....1000 gallon tank and field will run in the neighborhood of 15k, depending on your market.

also, if many/most old farms have high levels of arsenic in the water table due to all the live stock. easy enough to filter out, but its there.

oh yeah,...if the home was built in the 1700's it is possible you will find a vintage coin somewhere in the roof structure. many folks back then did this as a way to date the place. (or is that only in New England?)
edit: sorry, misremembered the build date you posted
If you drive the nicest car in the neighborhood, work in a cash business, and don't pay taxes, you're either a preacher or a drug dealer...

maybe you can figure a way to desmo-ize the pitchfork....maybe a clutchfork holding tool oversized or something bizarre like that ( okay so Photoshop may be needed for that )

you said you were getting the well and septic tested, so that might answer my question....

but, did you make sure the property came with water and mineral rights?
