What'd you say about my Momma?

« Reply #1560 on: October 01, 2011, 11:39:19 AM »

yeah...that "on the pipe hit" of a 2 smoke is a huge difference than the ole 4 stroke...does the KX have a disk brake?....

Its a drum.

I'm getting a dirty itch!  I'm 6'3", 220.  Is a 125 going to haul my arse around sufficiently or should I jump straight to a 250 or a 500?  My dirtbike experience is limited.

I got the bike a 4-wheeled friend.

unfortunately, it likely means the bike gets ridden less... hope she doesn't get jealous.

Do tell!

I could point you to a brand new two stroke KTM 350.   Evil

Point me to it! (I'm pretty sure they don't make a 2-stroke 350 - they have a 300 though and a very spiffy 350 four stroke).

A 125 2-stroke MX bike from about '88+ will haul you around fine if you keep it on the pipe.  Its not a bike for a slow, relaxing ride, but there's nothing better for a WOT,  all-out run.  They make about 35hp to the wheel, so a few more hp than say a DRZ400SM while weighing a hundred lbs less.  A 125 air cooled four stroke will have you getting passed by people on mountain bikes  Tongue  One thing about 125s is they are also generally considered to be the best learning tool in the dirt, they teach you to take perfect lines, carry lots of momentum in the turns and manage your power/engine carefully.  Also, being light and relatively slow they don't wear you out and magnify your mistakes like a 250 two stroke or 450 four stroke (125 2t and 250 4t race in the same class, as do 250 2ts and 450 4ts - the 4ts are a bit faster so the 2t is a disadvantage under the current rules in MX, but if you aren't worried about collecting points and going for championships the 2ts are cheaper, less maintenance and more fun imho). The 250 four strokes are the easiest to ride of them all.  Power and handling about like a 125 (just a touch more power), but a really wide power curve and they hook up well.

A 125/250F is a like like a 600cc supersport (ZX6 etc) while a 250/450F is a lot like a liter bike (ZX10).

It might have been a 300, but I thought I saw a "5" as the second number on the side.  It was definitely a 2stroke though, as it's impossible to miss that pipe.   waytogo

Went to pickup my baby from the welder.  Grin

Changed the oil and let her run for a little. Want to re-route some wires and the fuel lines. Need to make the licence plate and turn signals bracket and finish up the tail.

http://www.traxxion.com/AK-20AxxionCartridgeKit.aspx

sent the Aprilia Dorsoduro forks in to Traxxion Dynamics in Georgia for a complete overhaul and upgrade to their AK-20 cartridges, springs and valving.  The cartridges alone are 999.00 then whatever else they need to make this work since they haven't done a set yet.  Free installation, I just pay for parts.  Looking at about 12-1500 once everything is done.

Looking at this for the rear
