Spent 1+ hours stranded on the shoulder of 270S due to seized front brakes on the S4.  Despite hi viz clothing and bike running, was almost hit twice by people using the shoulder as the 5th lane.  Cagers are make the beast with two backsIN CRAZY

Yeah, super tight.  Once the bike rested and cooled, brakes released but not much fun when cagers are already cranky from sitting in traffic!

You back out the adjustment, so there's more now? Yes?

Congrats Jim - BTW

Yeah.  Must say there are some great drivers out there that offered to assist.

Cool. I helped out an older dude on a older BMW ADV bike stuck on 395 a while ago. Someone had just installed new pads for him that were too thick and skimming the rotor the whole time. heated'em up just like you.

There's a really good tutorial on building a tool kit for the stock seat

WTF!?!  Shocked  Who is the idiot who installed the brake pads? I'd be flippin' pissed!

I take the calipers off (one at a time) and push the pistons all the way back in, never had a problem!

Oh, and +1 to the toolkit! I have the essential tools on the BMW that are enough to perform the 12K service.  Cool

Not necessarily a pad issue. If you don't have enough free play at the lever it blocks the return port and leaves no space for the heated fluid to go. So pressure builds, things get hotter and your brakes will lock up eventually. Had this issue on the 900 when I did new levers - but I had the right tools with me and backed out the pin to allow the fluid to return to the res.

Congrats on the new job Jim.  Does this mean less riding or more for you?

Re: being stranded.....The front brakes were a little soft, so I Battley work on it.  While Tech reduced lever travel to engage brakes, he gave it too much.  To their credit Battley picked up the bike last night, worked on it and made it right today.  The Tech felt pretty awful given weather last night, visibility and issue with bike."  He apologized profusely and to her credit mistakes happen.  All is good.

On the other hand, Battley found that the bike is weeping oil from the vertical gasket......Called DucPond today to discuss why it's weeping after dropping $1,500.00 for service and I wasn't at all impressed with their response.  Net net, if I want them to look at the issue, I have to find a way to get my ride down there an according to them, Facebook might be my best friend if I don't want to pay to have it towed!  NO BUENO, NO NO BUENO!!

Officially gave notice to the University.

Thanks for all the congrats! It'll mean less riding for a while since I'll have to work more than 4 hours per week... in the long run, it should let me hit the track a bit more next summer as I'll not be confined by the academic calendar for taking vacation. Only by the whims of the workplace.
