All they have to do is run a speed trap on the guys doing hot laps around the beltway (495) between midnight and 3 am every weekend morning.....those f-ers are COOKING!

and this is why I am not on the beltway between those hours.

Flushed the brake/clutch fluid.  Ran into some problems with the rear brake.  I learned that you have to invert the rear brake master cylinder in order to get the fluid to flow.  I also noticed a tiny oil leak from the camshaft cover.  Oil leaks seem to be a common problem.  I'm guess I should just try replacing the O-ring, so I will see if that will fix the problem.

Was handed an ST3 shock as payment for a side job today. I know it's a direct bolt-on to the 695, and it should be a stiffer spring since it's coming off a touring bike so that might go about solving my rear shock respringing project. Shame it's another yellow spring though, I was looking forward to getting rid of the cheese :D

Anyone know if I'll have to hack the plastic under there to make room for the external reservoir?

I have one that when Dolci is ready for it, I'll put it on her 620 for her...I initially sourced it thinking I could possibly use it on my old 01 that I used to have...but, that being said, I'd just take a couple of hose clamps and attach it to the frame somewhere...

It's not the one with the remote reservoir, it's this one:

It isn't supposed to be a shocking (see what I did there?) upgrade but if I was going to respring the rear anyway I figured it was at least a slight step up. You can't beat free fitty.

Don't some folks powdercoat the spring to change the color?  Can' you just do that before installing?

Need a spring compressor to get the old one out, not like the older shocks (hooped rear) where you can just back out the pre-load all the way.

Space wise, it should be fine tho [thumbsup]

I've done umpteen coilover and cupkit installs on VWs over the years, spring compressors ain't no thang. Finally cracked and bought a nice set after the third pair of harbor freight specials seized up on me WITH the spring compressed. Nothing quite like putting spring compressors ON to get the stuck ones OFF.

Test rode an FZ8 over my lunch break in my continuing quest to see if there is a bike that fits me better than the Monster. I will say I was duly impressed by the bike's power, handling, and suspension. The ergonomics would have required at least a bar change to suit me and it is SOOO wide for its size. Aesthetically the thing is pretty weak in my opinion. The headlight looks stuck on and is far too big. Power delivery though is pretty bonkers. Anything above 5k was an eye opener right up to 12k or wherever it was that it redlined.

If only I could get that power in the 695 I'd be set.

Being faster than you thought possible…it feels good. No, screw thatâ€"it feels like shotgunning a gallon of adrenaline and chasing it with an all-night orgy aboard a burning Viking boat.

Lol shouldn't you be bothering Lars right now?

Meh, rode the 690, and for as fun as it was, still didn't have the power I would need to want to get out of the Monster. I love the Monster, it has that special combination of parts that when looked at individually aren't that great, but when you toss them all together it's just... damn near perfect. I'm doing some suspension work and seeing if that is enough to fend off the new bike bug. Massimo, you'll be happy to know that I did some research and the 998/748 forks are just a matter or milling the top triple so I put a bid in on a set.
