I did take a picture with my phone (a bit IZ_, but the inspection sticker is obvious enough) before moving the bike. I'll take better pictures and send it all in - it looks like I can either do a walk-in thing to contest it, mail stuff in or submit it all on-line. I sure I'll get it fixed, its just the absolutely careless (or perhaps fraudulent) "enforcement" of the law that bothers me.
VA usually does up the biker harassment level in the spring. One year I got pulled over 26 times IIRC - not a single time was due to any infraction, the coppers just wanted to check my license, insurance, inspection etc. It was, of course, all exactly in order every time. Still most annoying. Aren't there murders, rapist and thieves out running about that need catching? Oh yeah, the govt doesn't get to pocket a wad of cash for nabbing them...
So now can I tell everyone I've got an Italian dual sport? (acerbis is an Italian company after all and the all-knowing DC govt has deemed the bike to be mfg'd by Acerbis...).

I've mailed in to contest a bunch of tickets in the past. Sometimes my excuse was a bit iffey but I still have managed to get out of almost every single one. Even if you are guilty, if your funds are low, it will put if off for a couple months before you have to pay for it.

Who just bought a pristine set of low mileage 748 forks and axle for less than two bills shipped?

To me these are not police officers, rather solicitors with a badge. I also don't understand what's up with the attitude (rude) and the lying (to my face)...

The tickets in DC are given out by contractors working for private companies, no?

No idea. On an unrelated topic, free (sorta - rebate) cage oil (I'd guess the 20w-50 would make ok dry-clutch duc oil in the summer too)

Well, it was last Saturday and not today. Rode that Speed Triple. Also rode that Street Triple R. The Speed was nice and can't blame anyone who buys it. It's just not for me. The Street Triple R, on the other hand, seemed to fit my riding better. Just as quick 0-60 and lighter.
Both bikes felt closer to an I4 than a V-Twin. Not a lot of feedback from the engine on deceleration. The Speed Triple, in particular, was lackluster in the fun factor. It has so much power it really doesn't matter what gear you're in. Unless you want to wheelie, of course.
I liked the Thruxton. It's a terrible bike, though. Not a lot of power, but not necessarily underpowered. The seat was uncomfortable and the bars too narrow. But this "charm" made it a blast to ride.
Didn't get a chance to ride the Daytona because some dude crashed it earlier.
I'll be at the Kawasaki "Ticket to Ride" event both Saturday and Sunday this weekend. It's in Bowie... with a little luck... I'll break away on Sunday and join you mofos for some twisty stuff around 10:00.
I'm starting to miss my 696.

Brian, I really think that Street Triple (R or not) is about the best possible bike for your needs. Comfy, quite a bit of scoot, still unique and VERY reliable. Those triples are really nice motors.

Being faster than you thought possible…it feels good. No, screw that—it feels like shotgunning a gallon of adrenaline and chasing it with an all-night orgy aboard a burning Viking boat.

Ya, I really enjoyed my 20 minutes on the Street Triple. I think the 'R' comes with the fully adjustable suspension which is one of my requirements so, if I buy new, that will likely be my choice for the naked/street category.
I'm still considering a true sportbike, however, and I'm trying to come up with a short-list. Bummed I couldn't ride the Daytona, but I suspect the performance is somewhere between the Street Triple and the Speed Triple with ergos similar to the gixxer I babysat in April. Regardless, the Daytona is on my short-list already because I trust the wisdom of this crowd (and cave to peer pressure occasionally).
So I'm off to the
Kawasaki demo day thing
this weekend, rain or shine. I plan to ride (in this order):
ZX-6R
Z1000
Ninja 1000
ZX-10R (in "rain mode")

IF that is the case...then why don't you own a Superduke yet?
on a serious note though...go up to JT Motorsports in Frederick and testride a KTM 990SM-T...seriously!
