So, how far/long is that going to set you back?

Hello, complete newbie here. I did my first day of MSF today and tomorrow will be day 2! Had a blast and currently starting to look for a M696 or M620. Glad to be here and look forward to meeting some of you.

Welcome to the loony bin!
As far as bikes go, you can also look at a M695 (same engine as the 696, but old-school looks) and a M750 (about the same power as a M620).

Don't know yet, so far I've figured I have 3 options:
- cut & weld the current frame (fast & easy, but safe?)
- get a 999/749 frame (more $$)
- get SBK engine cases and migrate the whole shit (FML)
And I'm going to try them in this order.
The guy I contacted to do the exhaust (Bruce in Falls Church, VA) has done work on motocross bikes so he might be able to take care of the whole thing for me.

Do you know for certain that the motor will drop straight into a 7/999 frame?

That's what TAft did with his
bike
And I guess that's why the folks at RAD and Kaemna use 749/999 frames....

Fair enough then. So with that in mind, what other motors will fit in a Tamburini frame?

Most 4V engines *should* fit. The issue with 2V engines is the swingarm axle. It will fit if either you cut off the part where the swingarm axle goes through the frame or you use a 749/999 frame.

Followed Jim through Harwood today so I could watch his positioning on the bike. Gave him a few pointers afterward, and now he's faster.

Ok, correction time...
The 695 and 620 shared an engine - that was bored and the stroke shortened to get 77 more CCs. The 696 has an all new engine.
The Carby 750 was about the same power as the 620. The injected 750 had some more go.
And Sunday I went west to avoid the shoals of pirates... and had a nice chat with a VA public servant who gave me a nice yellow piece of paper to take home and asked me to come visit again in a few weeks

ARRGGGHH, bummer! Is it a "payable" offense? Or do you _have_ to make a guest appearance?

It's a have to.
The hell of it was we (Cagey was with me) had been very well behaved. Then we get this lady in a black Merc that pulls out in front of us and proceeds to muck about on her cell phone. She varied speed from just above to 5+ below the speed limit and crossed the double yellows several times in a couple miles. When I got a dashed yellow I scooted around her. As Cagey was behind, I wanted to do my pass quickly to give him the ability to pass on the dashes. To my misfortune, a Statey appeared on the horizon as I was fully passing her and it got the blue n red discos.
