Went out for a peddler on the 29er (mountain bike) this morning, toyed around with the 1/8 scale RC and plan on taking the scooter out to enjoy the roads in Dartmouth.

STOP looking at the KTM right now if you are already frustrated. Out of what you mentioned, I'd personally have to find a tigre.

Took the SD out for a spin to try and get the suspension sorted on it. It's riding much better now, but I've noticed that it's time for a new rear tire. DAMN I didn't get squat for miles out of that Pirelli!!!
On the way back home, I decided to go south, cross over into VA via the bridge on the 301, and take 218 to 95. All was going well until I had a road side chat with one of Maryland's mobile revenue generators.

Nope. Traffic was stupid heavy and basically sitting still for a long ways. I was moving over to the side to see how far I was from the bridge I was just two other guys went past on the shoulder. Well, there happened to be a state tr two cars ahead and he got all three of us for passing on the right. Funny thing is, we were actually in a turning in/off access lane when he lit us up.

The LC8 requires more work than an early, O2 equipped Ducati engine to get running right/smooth. Even with removal of the O2 sensors, remapping and stripping out the cats it is still stumbly off the line and below 4k rpms. Rumor has it that they have refined/softened the map on the SMT, but I've tried four different maps (two of which are KTM approved) on mine and nothing has been able to cure the low rpm transition yet. One of these days I'm going to take it up to RnR and get them to do an individual cylinder map on their dyno, but...
Plus, the knowledge/support base barely exists for them here in the states. The dealer network is almost nil, with most KTM dealers only touch the dirt line and not the street bikes. The SD is a hoot to ride when you keep it on the boil, but it's a bit tiring otherwise. Don't really think I'd be looking at one if it was going to be my "everyday" bike.

I came back from Outer Banks and was on my way out to the cabin in Culpeper when I saw the CL ad. Upshot: I bought an S2R1K today. Pics in a few days when I'm back from foothills.

DRKWNG, in my experience with other twins with crappy factor mapping, off-the-shelf maps are usually quite sucky, but a properly done (this bit is key) custom map can make all the difference in the world. Bikes, especially fairly highly tuned twins really like a dialed in fuel map and the stock mapping often sucks. This was very much the case with the suzuki TLs, especially the '97, but with a really nicely dialed in custom map it snorts even harder, gets almost 10mpg better mileage and doesn't sputter/stublmle/go flat like it did as standard.

Believe me, I know all about big(ish), high performance twins and their need for proper tuning. What I was getting at about the LC8 is that a lot of people have taken their bikes in for extensive time on the dyno, staffed by people who know what they're doing, and still had very mixed results. I'm ultimately going to book mine up at RnR for some tuning if it stays in my garage.

Randy and I got lucky and stayed a good bit south of it.

Ahh I got it. On first read I thought you were talking about poor results with various off-the-shelf maps.
