Need help with my gas light!

How's it going everyone? My gas light is not comeing on! I ran out of gas on the 405 in the carpool, what a bad filling! I have a 02 S4.  The light does trun on with the key in befor start up, then it's light's out from there! Thank's, mybe someone can help!
