Pre-owner said he hooked up the battery wrong. It has an after-market ecu, and came with no battery. I got a new battery and it does not start. Instrument panel sweeps and all acces. lights go on, including flashing amber colored light.. Should i send the ecu back to desmoporsche for a re-flash? or try to get a new instrument panel?

The immobilizer light should not be flashing or even lit when you turn the key to the "ON" position.

The previous owner of my 996 hooked up the battery backwards.

It blew the 40 amp fuse and the ecu.

But the immobilizer light will flash if it doesn't read the key code it wants.  Even holding another bike's key next to the keybox when you switch it on will cause it to mis-read the code.

Ahhh, i didn't know that.

ok. I just talked to the previous owner. he hooked up the battery wrong, blew the ecu, bought a new ecu from desmoporsche, then got the bike repo'd.  bike does not start still. ducati put a ign antenna on and still no start. is their a dimobilizer in the inst panel?

Duck-Stew

You can 86 all the immobilizer stuffs by sending the ecu back to DesmoPorsche and requesting the DP engine specs (your bike will run like it's supposed to) and request that the immobilizer function be turned off.  That way, no matter what gauges are hooked to it (or you can remove the gauges altogether) and no matter if the key is right, wrong, or if the antenna is broken, missing, what-have-you...  she'll start up (providing there are no other wiring issues...)

If I dont have an aftermarket exhaust do i still need the dp ecu flash?

Duck-Stew

Oh...  in that case, nevermind the dp reflash just get the immobilizer turned off.

However...  The dp specs and some aftermarket pipes would be a better running bike.  Just sayin'.
