Anyone installed one? What depth/width?

Yup. Very deep.... 1000s of KMs wide.

What did you put in it that eats people? I need something that'll survive lower temps on occasion, but not freeze. Ideally with a minimum amount of feedings, too.

Sharks mostly. Great White ones.  Just throw em the occasional surfer.

I'd be willing to electrify the moat as an alternative, but I don't know what size of a backup generator I would need.

Maybe you could consider keeping a bunch of deadly spiders, snakes and crocodiles as back-up?  Works for me  

Should I fence both sides of the moat or just one? Inside or outside?
