Ohlins suspension settings

Hi;

I was wondering how you set the forks spring preload to the factory setting.  The manual says the spring preload setting is 19 mm, but I don't know what this means and where it's measured.  A suspension shop played with the preload and didn't tell me what the orrigional settings were and I'm not that happy with the results and I want to return them to factory spec.  The bike's an S4Rs

im not familar with the fork but 19mm of preload sounds like the amount of "thread" showing on the preload adjuster. If u start turning hte preload it goes in and out. Just back it out or put it in till u get 19mm worth of preload knob showing.

If u are not happy, u should  get teh shop to adjust it for you.

Before that, may i ask why arent u happy with it? Preload is used to set sag and get the spring to work at its optimal range and its easy to set, and once set for most people, it doesnt ever get changed.

With the Ohlins the threads don't show.  The adjuster bolt remains flush with the tube.  This is why i'm not sure how you can tell where they are at.  The reason I want to return them to factory is the tech cranked the pre-load all the way to the max to get the proper sag.  He said I just made it otherwise he would have to go with a stiffer spring.  Problem is this has the effect of raising the front end.  I just wanted to see how this affects the handling.

Good luck. Id advise getting the right spring either way. Its not hard to swap them.

From the info I've read, and the few Ohlins forks I've had my hands on, Ohlins forks give 1mm of preload for each turn on the nut.

So, back 'em all the way out (counterclockwise), then crank 'em in 19 turns.

YMMV, I'm not an Ohlins guru.
