2009 vs 2010 M696 - Engine case change?

Why'd Ducati change the engine case? The oil filter is now fully exposed on the 2010.  [Edit: Maybe pulled from the M1100 parts bin?  2009 and 2010 looks the same, fully exposed oil filter]

Not a big fan of the Oil filter being exposed that much, I think it looks tacky and Ready for some road Debris to pierce
the side.
I think I would be making some sort of Carbon Fiber Guard for it me thinks.
