New Ride (new to me at least)

I am not sure if Jupiter's moons aligned with Saturn, hell just froze over, or my wife has started smoking crack, but she finally caved in and let me get a sportbike. Apparently, pestering the shit out of her finally worked.  Its not the newest, but my favorite of all the superbikes.  It was well taken care of and has low mileage.  Kind of cool that I found it on Ebay, but only 45 minutes from my house.  Now, if I can get used to the positioning, my nuts toasted to a golden brown, and that flattened out Beer Koozie that Ducati calls a seat.  I can finally keep up with the guys I ride with (well, a couple of them at least).  That's something that my S2R800 (try as it might) just couldn't do.  But, to be honest, riding this bike for a while really makes you appreciate the Monster's riding position.  It makes a Monster's seat feel like a Lazyboy recliner.

Very nice. Congrats. And it's an S model!! Good score!![thumbsup]

Yes the 999 bikes can be miserably hot to ride in the summer. Especially in traffic. Ass/thigh roasters on wheels! Not sure if the new SBKs with the dual underseat exhausts are as bad. I know my 916SPS and 996S aren't as bad. I have Ferracci bars (similar to Heli-Bars) and the factory "comfort" seat and the positioning isn't too bad for what it is. Certainly an improvement over stock. After breaking my neck and the God awful surgeries to fix it I can't ride any sport bike with low bars comfortably anymore. But that doesn't stop me from riding them. Now Advil is part of my permanent riding "gear".

You should look into the seat and Heli-Bars while your wife is still in the mood! [thumbsup]

Even though the muffler box can grill steaks I still love my 999! Enjoy it. [moto]

Yeah, I have already been eyeballing the heli-bars.  Seems like the new position would be enought to take the edge off.  What do you think about the comfort seat?  Worth the investment?

The bar swap is very nice! [thumbsup] Takes absolutely nothing away from it's sporting nature.

Honestly I made the score of a lifetime on the seat. When I took it in for the 600 mile service I asked to have the whole seat/sub frame moved forward to reduce the reach to the bars. By the way, that's when I had the bar swap done. Anyway, the threads on my stock seat were stripped out at the factory... too much Merlot at lunch! [laugh] [wine] And the AMS employee knew I wanted the "comfort" seat so he went ahead and made a warranty exchange for me at no cost!! Never asked, he just did it!! [clap] Probably didn't have a new stock 999 seat in stock but had the "comfort" model ready to go. That's my guess. Made me a lifelong customer!! [thumbsup] But I was ready to shell out the cash for one anyway. Don't know what the current cost is but I'd still do it. It's not a HUGE difference (unlike the Corbin seat was on my RC51...) but it's an improvement for sure. Check ebay motors and see if you can find a deal. Realistically, there aren't too many of them out there so ebay could be a stretch. Good luck with the hunt.

Cool, thx for the info.  Are you still running the stock gearing.  Mine is a pregnant dog to work with in town.  Not really what it is made for though.  But, with kids, work, and school, my fun rides are pretty much the long way to and from work.  Bike is kind of pulling double duty.

I had my monster out yesterday. All of a sudden, everything on it seems to be in slow motion.

Nice, I used to think 999s were ugly but recently I've changed my mind. I'm wondering if those are Boomtubes you have on your Monster though, love the look of those. I'm guessing they are custom as usually the tips are pointed more perpendicular to the bike.
