iPhone-charger failure

I've been plugging my iPhone into a cigarette-type charger for months, and recently rode to the Dakotas and back using the iPhone as my GPS and keeping it plugged in all day.

While on a trip from Raleigh to Orlando to Indy, the iPhone stopped being charged by the charger and went dead.  The charger seems to be getting power (LED is lit), but its not charging the phone.  I bought a new charger in Alabama.  It worked fine for a few hours, and then the same thing...no charge.

Any ideas?

I have noticed on my wife's 3g that it has gotten finicky about the charger we use lately we have 2 griffin chargers one only works with my 3gs now the other one is the type that locks (buttons on either side of the plug) that works great with her phone i wold try that it seems like as the phones get older there are connection issues with charging. this is only in the car though the OEM charger works fine at the house her phone i a year older than mine so age and use is my initial hypothesis

I'm of no help at the moment, but so I know what to avoid: Which ones failed?

the one that failed for me was the cord that came withe my dual usb port griffin charger it looks just like the oem one but black, it slips in and out with out having to press anything. The one that works like a champ is a coiled cable it has two detents on the plug just like the ones that came with my circa 2005 u2 edition ipod. sorry for the earlier grammar i hadn't had my coffee yet. I don't try to charge mine on the bike but i would assume that the vibration of the bike as opposed to the car could make the condition i experienced even worse.

I'm not sure if its the chargers or the phone, but when I get home, I'll post pics of the chargers in question.  Sounds like I'm not the only one with this problem...misery loves company.   [cheeky]

I have the same issues.  My Ipod charger wont work for Iphone and the Ipad (wife's  [evil]) works on nothing.  This is the reason I left Sony products and now Apple is at it too.  [bang]

Try this charger by Incpio. http://www.myincipio.com/product/MINI_CHARGER_PW-104/Universal-Mini-Auto-Charger---1-Port---Black.html

This little guy has yet to fail me. And you can plug just about any USB powered device into it.

It might be worthwhile to check what out what voltage your bike is putting out as cruising rpm's too, if it is too high that could be contributing to the demise of the chargers....

Funny thing is that it worked fine for months, and the charger is not broken just temporarily ineffective.

BTW, can the iPhone/charger get too hot to work properly?  I've been riding long hours in the mid-90s °F.

That's the failure mode of the cables. I but them a 1/2 dozen at a time from Amazon. Just do a search for iPhone accessories. you can't have too many charge cords with you..

Where at in Alabama?

Did you ride through Birmingham?

Yeah, I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express right off I65 north of Birmingham.  Northern Alabama is nice -- lotsa trees and rolling hills.   :)

What's the failure mode?  The heat?  Or are you saying that the cables just routinely shit the bed?

Both my chargers still work.  They just stop working while riding, and then work again later.
