I like that idea.

Then when you make the beast with two backs up I can kill two threads.  ;D

The grin does have a calming effect. :-*

Yes.  There is a really make the beast with two backsing stupid AR type gun... the ones with 11" barrels, but to comply with the NFA they WELD on a 5.5" "flash suppressor" so the barrel is legally 16.5 inches... totally negating the purpose (and a very limited one that it is) of having an 11" barrel on an AR.  Want a short-barreled AR? Don't wanna play with the NFA taxes on SBR's? Get an AR based pistol.

You're right. I have never figured that one out. Why bother? I suppose some douche might figure a way to get the brazed on suppressor off the barrel and be all macho and shit with his illegal SBR. But why? What does 11" do that 16" can't? Wait for it..... wait....      that's what she said!! [laugh] Couldn't pass that up. [laugh]

Anyone can legally buy a 10-11-12 inch barreled upper with no required paperwork.  No brazing needed.

If you mount it onto an unregistered lower though, its a felony.

Sure. But why does a manufacturer even offer a 10", 11", etc. barrelled AR if it just has to have a long un-removeable flash suppressor to make it a legal 16" rifle? What's the point? That would be like Remington making an 870 with a 14" barrel and sticking an un-removeable 4" extended choke tube on it so they could sell it to anyone. Me no understand. [bang]

I can't explain that.   People buy whatever tickles their tickler.

I have seen shotguns with a breaching type muzzle device that is essentially a barrel extension.  You can keep the legal 18" length and have a device on the end.  I dunno

Me neither. Of course I don't know anyone who owns an 11" AR with the required brazed on muzzle break/flash hider so I have no one to ask why they got it. ??? I'd like to hear their answer if I ever have the chance to ask. Not that owning one makes you stupid or something but I'd like to know what spun their prop about it to go that route over a standard 16" or 20". Just wondering.

You guys know as well as I do that sometimes the price is just too good to let it go...

Like tizz said, you can buy any barrel length you want. Iiiegal (?) who gives a shit, no one will know, or care for that matter.

GAAN

several people I know have them

the ranges of reasons include:

"the recent election sent the AR's up to 1500+, this one was 850"

"It's a home defense gun so no reason to engage anyone out at 300+yrds"

"this one had the standard sight post and handle"

in this area its more about whats available on the shelf

I can understand this reasoning, but then it's not looking for the 11" barrel.  It's looking for a deal.

Doesn't make sense... in terms of a LEGAL gun, it would still have the extra length, so any advantages that the 11" would have on size are lost, plus less accuracy, plus a more troublesome gas system.

The 11 inch barrel will easily reach out to 400yds. Much further if you train a lot.

The lower cost makes sense I suppose.

the comment is in regards to the fact that the gun would be used for short range so the lack of 5 inches of rifling was no big loss

also

the gas system is of no issue as it wont be used to fire several thousands of rounds, maybe 200-300 a year

yep, if you are looking to get a gun off the rack it is

most of them are flat tops

finding a carbine length A2 with a non-tele stock is a rare find

so will my .22 but hitting anything at that range without real training, constant practice, and a scope isn't going to happen for the average citizen
