GUN STUFF

I've made three real strong attempts to become happy with Glocks.  They are great guns, tough, functional, reasonably accurate (sometimes very accurate).  I have been shooting them pretty much exclusively for the last 3 years or so.  A couple of months ago, my brother and I were shooting some drills.  I was shooting the 19 and I switched to my Colt Defender 45 and just romped and stomped all over my Glock performance.  All the muscle memory from the 1911s is still there.  On paper, the Glock is probably a better gun, but in my hands, I still performed better with the 1911.  Somewhere North of a half million rounds of 45 ACP out of 1911's probably has a bit to do with it.  Its why I'm considering building a lightweight commander in 45 again for carry.  I really like the 19, but I just perform better with the 1911's.  I started dragging the 1911s out of the safe and its been so fun running them again.

I still recommend new pistol shooters to start out with Glocks, XDs or M&Ps , because if you build the proper muscle memory from the get go with them, I think you are better off.

Just got home from Cabela's with my Christmas presents to me:
My first AR-15, a Bushmaster in .223, and a Glock 21 Gen 4.
Can't wait to go play!

Thats a pretty great Christmas Present!  The next range day should be fun!

I gave myself a G30s last year. Apparently this is becoming a tradition  ;D
I've never fired another .45 that I could shoot more accurately. The only pistol that I can personally shoot as accurately is a PPK, so I've been extremely happy with Glock.

Those little PPKs always shoot way better than you expect a little gun to.  That fixed barrel system makes for a surprisingly accurate little rig.

I've always loved the PPK as a platform, but I haven't heard great - or even good, for that matter - things about Walthers from a functional reliability standpoint.

Any FHE from the collective board?

Mine is a S & W piece. Lots of jams the first 100 rounds. Actually had me worried. Since then, though, I've put about 2000 rounds through it with no issues.

I had the opportunity to talk to one of the sales execs from Walther.  We were discussing the TPH.  The first TPH runs were made in Germany and were wonderful little handguns.  Then Walther set up a plant in Alabama to make guns including the TPH.  The Walther guy told me right out, do not buy an American made Walther, they are junk.  My PPK is a German one and it runs perfectly.  This was x-number of years ago, so things might have changed.  My German PPK and my GX-1 smallbore rifle performed excellently.

Swampduc, great score on the Bushmaster and Glock. Merry Christmas!! ;D Like my older brother has always said, "the best gift is the one you buy yourself". Part 2 of his gift buying advice is "never buy someone something that you can't borrow and use yourself"... and he has always meant both of those! [roll]

I have a G21 and it's a great pistol. I love all things .45 but the 21 is a chunky, big ass gun for me. I'd rather sling a 12 gauge over my shoulder than try to carry a 21 concealed. [laugh]
But it's a damn nice gun.

Like Warren I favor the model 19 Glock, they are my fav G guns. But also like Warren I just run better with 1911s. No slam on Glocks, it's just a personal preference. It's not that I shoot that much better with 1911s (OK... maybe a little bit) but I just enjoy it more. Like I said in an earlier post, I'm also digging shooting my Hi-Powers lately. I'll stay tuned up on them but on my last shooting range trip the only pistols I took were the HPs. It was nice to focus on one type of pistol.

I've got a stainless Walther PPK and although it runs well enough on ball ammo I've had an occasional issue with some hollow point rounds. Mainly some good Federals and Cor-Bon ammo. Also not crazy about the hammer bite when you get a nice high grip. Not my favorite .380. That goes to the SIG 230, Kel-Tec and Ruger LCP.
I plan to list the Federal Gov't. as a dependent on my next 1040 tax filing!

I have flying honey badgers and I'm not afraid to use them!

The fact that flame throwers exist is proof that someone somewhere said "I'd sure like to set those people over there on fire but I'm just not close enough to get the job done."

I had the same experience with the Austrian made Glocks vs the American ones.

I picked up a G19 for cheapo years ago that was a grey market import by IO.  Gen3 police guns.  I can't describe what the difference is, but it feels different from the Smyrna made Glocks.
