hydrolic clutch problem

I have a 06 monster s4r.  I though my clutch went out and limped home on my bike but realized
all the fluid was gone from the reservoir- so i added some fluid and bleed it out.  it worked fine for about a few hundred more miles and then i noticed my clutch lever started feeling funny again.  This time I new what to check and sure enough the reservoir was very low- so i added some more fluid / bleed and works fine.  My question is where is the fluid going.  I see no leaking under my bike when parked in the garage or after a ride.  My understanding is this is a sealed until and fluid should not be disappearing like it is.  any ideas??

More than likely it is the slave cylinder.  Remove the three bolts, inspect and you will probably see fluid coming out of the weep hole.  Yeah, it was sealed, unfortunately it no longer is.

Like howie said, it's probably the slave.  The stock Ducati slaves are known to spontaneously start leaking.  Time for a new one.  A few of our board sponsors sell them.

thanks guys, looks like my next purchase.  any tips for replacing this or is it straightforward?

The replacement is very straight forward.

Bleeding can be tricky. Search around and you'll find lots of tips if you run into trouble.

I have an Evo unit.  Pretty straight forward.  just bleed the bejesus out of it.

if you dont get any bejesus in it, you wont need to bleed any out of it.

I'd like to see you install one of those things without getting any bejesus in it.  It's damn near impossible!!

really? i always get air in them. not bejesus. :/ must be the brand.

I had the same problem on my monster recently...but after 12 years I am not surprised the stock slave gave out bled all the fluid.

So I ordered a Yoyodyne...UPS says shes is waiting for me at home :)  I will let you know how it goes.

There are several good brands out there for slave cylinders.  If you have a preference around a particular color then you will be limited to a few.  I chose yoyodyne because it gets rave reviews and it is also sold by one of my favorite online shops.

Ok need a little more help on this topic.
- i have found a red or gold slave cylinder for 125, seems to be the cheapest around but they
  are currently out of red.  damn.  Also does the slave cylinder come with the little o ring?
- i was reading here and noticed people talking about the push rod, i guess i will see it once
  i take off the slave cylinder.  Do i need to pull this rod out and replace the o rings and grease
  it up while i have the slave cylinder off or is this just doing unnecessary work on my bike?

on a slightly off topic i was going to change my oil and i cannot find any information on
the little screw just above and to the left of the oil sight window-  i thought i read somewhere that it is a mess screen that i should take out and clean but i found another video that showed
a much larger screen on the bottom of the engine.  i only have 6800 miles on the bike so dont want to tear it apart for fun plus i will probably screw something up but if it is a big deal i want to do the proper maintenance so it will last.

The screen you are looking for sits towards the rear of the bike in relation to the oil fill cap.  It lives directly behind the oil temp sensor bung.
