Tombstone road trip suggestions?

hey there.  Sorry to invade.

I was thinking of getting some buddies together and riding out to Tombstone for a weekend trip.  I went there once a couple years ago and thought it'd be a fun trip for some SoCal boys who don't leave home much.

I poked around online and saw there was a Holiday Inn nearby with a pool/hot tub, as well as some places with more.. uh.. local flavor.


Any suggestions on where to stay, when to arrive (I was thinking september-ish?) and any suggestions for night life?  I personally don't need to party all night, but I also don't want to sequester myself in a hotel room all weekend.

Anyway, I've been down to Tombstone/Bisbee once.  How far is it between the two anyway?  I think I would look at staying in Bisbee instead if I were you.

I disagree, I think staying in Tombstone would be awesome.

However, don't just go to a Holiday Inn. Instead, stay in a locally-owned Bed & Breakfast. You'll find the experience more enjoyable.

I second staying in Tombstone for the local flavor, but definitely head down to Bisbee while you're in the neighborhood -- a fun former mining town turned arty, with much better riding in the vicinity than just a little further north.

And you want to have breakfast at the Bisbee Breakfast Club http://www.bisbeebreakfastclub.com/.Trust me on this.

I can attest to staying is Bisbee and it is very cool. I can't speak to staying in Tombstone however, never done it. Make sure for your riding parts, to take the route through Patagonia then Sonoyta, straight past and skip Sierra Vista on to Tombstone, then, if you decide, on to Bisbee. Very cool highway. Hell, stay at both, neither one is really good for more than one night anyway.

The holiday inn or best western I picked for price and the pool/spa and firepit at the BW.   Plus, we're talking mostly late 20, early 30's bunch of guys.  Some of those B&B rooms look a little frilly.

I noticed they have something called Helldorado Days which looks pretty awesome to show up for.  Might have to arrange the stay there.

Thanks for the route suggestion Mostro.  And yeah, after looking at Bisbee, it looks cool but a little on the pricey side.  So maybe a day trip down there would be in order.

My wife's family is from there and the wife told me that something called "Old Tuscon" was worth a stop too.  any opinions on that one?

Anyway.

If you're going to ride in Tuscon, then you'll want to go to the top of Mt. Lemon to a place called Summerhaven. Definitely do that.

Old Tucson is cool. I've been there before. It's a movie studio, with some good tourist attractions. I was fortunate enough to visit when I was a little kid, right after they filmed Three Amigos there. It's cool to look back at that movie and say, "I've been there, and there, and there." Unfortunately, that part of the studio burned down some time after. They've also had John Wayne movies, Clint Eastwood movies, Young Guns was there, the movie Tombstone, etc.

My dad lives about 5 minutes from Old Tucson. We used to go there all the time growing up. Back then, you could challenge gun gun fighters to a draw. They had real guns with blanks. That place used to be cool until it burned down. They had a coal mine ride then. Now, you walk through. Lame!

Skip Old Tucson. Keep going though and you'll hit the Sonoran Desert Museum. The better of the two. Ride out there in back into Tucson through Gates Pass.

I was just at the top of The Catalinas 2 weeks ago. Parked next to an 1198 and Brutale. Its a nice, scenic ride up there. Enjoy!
