Can I paint my oil cooler?

As the title asks, is it possible to paint my oil cooler. I've looked quite a bit and haven't found anything in black but have seen them here on the forum. Has everyone painted them?  If so, what type of paint would one use? Does it affect anything negatively? Thanks in advance.

Eastwood has a paint specifically for radiators you could try out

How about just painting the ends black, then wrapping it in some type of grill mesh??  That way you don't need to worry if the paint is decreasing the cooling effect of the radiator.  Just an idea..

radiator paint is designed to not impact that. its also thin enough to not matter that much anyway.

I painted mine eith just engine paint.  No I'll effects at all... Temp stays the same as before

I've painted a few w/no ill effects...

That, and you've got a 750.  There's barely enough heat generated there to warrant the existence of the cooler in the first place.  Just take it off, mask it and have at it.

Mine was painted with engine paint.  I've noticed no differences in the engine temperatures.  I have had a few paint chips which I had to touch up. 

This isn't the best picture to show the oil cooler, but you can see that under normal viewing conditions the black oil cooler really does disappear.

I just painted my oil cooler and my rad with Eastwood rad paint.  No temp change (it may run cooler actually)  Good stuff.  I say do it!  Looks good too.

Any BBQ or slow combustion heater shop has flat black heatproof paint which is what I used.







In a previous thread wise advice was given about being verrrrrrry careful and put a spanner onto the hex of the delicate oil cooler before undoing the pipe joints.

I took off the filter, gave it a good scrub in degreaser, suds, solvents then turps. Poured the paint on, brushed it into the nooks and crannies, it dries real fast.

No noticable effect on cooling, and any stone chips can be touched up easy.

Great looking bike...I'm kinda digging the orange triples.  My bike is the same color scheme.

Thanks for the responses everyone. I think I'll try painting first as it will be the cheapest.

kopfjäger, thanks for the heads up on the hyper cooler!! Just in case I botch the paint job.
