If you look on the lower frame spar up near the airbox there will be a dimple in the powdercoating where the frame clamp should be.

I confirmed it - this is your old bike! The dimple is there.

I went to have it inspected (Ohio requires out of state vehicles to have the title matched to the vehicle vin for vin). We couldn't find the vin, but the inspector gave it the go ahead anyway (out of pity, I assume). I'm headed out to the garage to put on the new plate, hit it w/ some rubbing compound to get some of the light swirls out and put on a tank pad.

my apologies. It was 10am, so ...

Next time! I'll be in Buffalo at some point this summer to do some archival research for grad school.

the vin is on the right side of the head tube. The coater masked it off with a piece of tape. If you look there will be a long rectangular lump where the tape is. To see the vin you'd have to cut it off and expose the frame metal.

It was gold but all you'd see would be raw metal left from the sand blasting process.

I can't believe the let you go without seeing that vin!

PA needs to see it in person or a rubbing is ok too.

Ohio needs to see it as well. I got REALLY lucky. Now I know. This is kinda cool that this M900 is still in the extended family.

yeah that's what I was thinking :)

also, that bike had a red cowl on it when I got it and it looked pretty sweet.

I might be done w/ mods for a little while. It's running really well and feels great. I'm still under $4000 for the whole enchilada (quite a bit under). The "grabby" brakes was due to a brake pad being in backwards. One chewed rotor, but I replaced the whole set. I swapped the seat for a Corbin for more comfortable two-up riding. The front fairing makes the freeway a lot easier. The low mount exhaust is BEAUTIFUL in sound and in restoring the open geometry of the bike.

Mods I still want to do, perhaps over the winter -- steering damper, clutch cover, amber frame lights. I've put about 1.5k miles on it since I got it and it still feels great.
