snapped brake lever

okay so its really basic: i just wanted to replace a snapped front brake lever. i heard ducati orginals can get up to $100, (i'm in australia), so i was wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction of a decent cheap but efficient lever.
i didn't drop it, before you ask. but finished uni and came to find it lying on its side in an empty car park   glad we've got honest people here too

I've had some really good luck with the Lockhart Phillips replacement levers. I have had one on my 748 for the last 4 years and we've replaced both on my wife's GSXR and one on her R1 with the Lockhart replacements. The largest problem with these is that they are more brittle and tend to snap off instead of possibly bending, as some OEM levers do. With the LP levers only being $8-$15 USD over here, that is a LOT of levers that can be bought at the OEM Brembo lever costs of $80+. Check the LP applications and see if they have levers that fit your bike. It wouldn't be a bad idea to buy an extra for each side in case of an emergency (we've had to change at least one lever while in the middle of BFE)......also, keep an eye on eBay. I've seen OEM Brembo levers go for $10-$20 on several occasions. If you have the older, non-adjustable levers for the coffin style master cylinders, I know where to get OEM levers in black for about $20 each.

Some aftermarket levers are fine but you do take a chance with using non oem at times. When I was working at BCM we started to carry a in-expencive adjustable lever. it was a fraction of the cost of oem ($20ish) . We stopped selling them when one of our customers had his brake lever fail, the pivot broke and locked his front wheel up while riding. It may have been a very rare occurrence but I am not willing to take that chance myself.

Now I love a deal as much as anyone but I inspect levers very closely these days. I would be happy to put a $15 clutch lever on, I am very cautious about $15 brake levers. This all boils down to liability, If you are willing to take the risk you have the choice. For myself there is not enough benefit to take the chance.

Local non-authorised dealer got me an exact brembo replacement for my '94 for $15 US.

Brembo non adjustable levers (black or silver) should be in the 15-20 range. ducati just marks them up to the $$$$ range.
 Adjustables are where the prices go through the roof.

Ebay becomes a good option for oem adjustables as people are putting on fancier aftermarket levers no one wants oem.... well except me

This is true......which is why many people only have the dealer install their brake pads and tires and do oil changes and.....

For the record, between my wife and I, we probably have a combined 70k miles racked up on the Lockhart-Phillips levers without a single failure that wasn't due to it hitting something.

An early reply mentioned Yoyodyne. Not so good for you; the shipping would kill the deal.

But Fred's a good source 'cause he's a Brembo dealer. So the message is, you can get a Brembo lever from a Brembo dealer for much less than you can get the same Brembo lever from a Ducati dealer (well, unless the Ducati dealer is sourcing them outside the Ducati supply chain )
