New - M1100 Rear Luggage

Just got back from a weekend trip and the cortech mini bag (strap version) and the sport tail bag worked fantastic.  Would highly recommend.  Only enough with that combination for a couple day trip but works well for the weekend warrior.  Everyone thanks for advise and will post sooms picks to show how they look but look fine.

tank bag width fits nicely on flat part of tank and it fits a spare visor. 


tail bag secures well with four bungee hooks.  it expands to hold a weekend's worth of clothes, YMMV.

any problem with scratches?

no problems with scratches b/c of the soft, spongy liners.

I did a 9 day trip with the DP tank bag and a waterproof duffel strapped to the back of the bike.  This was more than enough space to pack cloths, camping gear, and tools.  The duffel was strapped using the mounts for the pipes as one anchor point and under the seat as another anchor point.  Putting the straps under the seat and around the latch was a little annoying.  I was thinking of getting a new seat from Corbin, I am planning to ask them to sink four d-rings into the pile-on seat to use a anchors for the duffel.  Ideally these would be completely covered by the cowl.

Nice setup with the Cortech.  I have a small tank bag from them but it's magnetic.  Works on the 620 but not my 1100.  The tailbag will be perfect size though for making the trip from PHX to LA for DIMBY. Along with my Kreiga Hydropack/10L bag. 

How did that big Northface do with the wind?  I see someone else had a similar bag/setup.

I saw both the Ducati Performance and the Cortech yesterday.  I liked the DP looks & mounting setup but the Cortech price is right!  I'm actually thinking about getting it now for daily use.  The Tumi backpack I carry is usually full and doing a number on my back since I'm doing a lot of miles between sites.

I struggled with the same luggage issue for my 1100.  I chose the Bags connection Cargo bag.    http://www.twistedthrottle.com/trade/productview/922/340/

It fits great, does not slide around and holds alot.  Plus with the waterprooof liner it keeps everything nice and dry.  If you have a rear fender eliminator you will need to be creative with the straps for the rear of the bag, and I had to fashion some brackets for my rear indicator lights so they would extend out past my exhaust.
I used this bag on a 11 day 3500 mile trip last summer.  The photo below is of my bike with the cargo bag, a sleeping bag, ground pad, and an extra duffel bag with some camping gear..  It looks a little like the truck from the Beverly Hillbillies but it actually worked great and did not effect handling too much.  In fact I rode Deals Gap with my bike loaded like this.

don't condemn the givi hard top boxes until you try them.  they are literally the most convenient things that you will ever put on a bike if you are somone that commutes/daily errands or touring.

they may not "look cool" when parked at starbucks so you won't get all the guys at starbucks asking you about your motorcycle. if that is something you will miss then maybe the topbox is not for you.   

but seriously its great for everything else, you can literally go in a store or mall, etc and put your helmet and gloves in it and lock it for a few hours and come back with a bag of stuff and not have to wear a backpack or such the entire time.  well if you pack right and get the larger topbox you never need to wear a backpack and can put all your weekend clothing on a trip in the topbox. its awesome. 

and that bracket it is hwoing is not that bad alone when you want to take off the top box.  the topbox looks goofy for the first week you use it then after that you literally wonder how you did without it.

now if you are someone that only rides for an hour or 2 in the twisites on teh weekends then its really not for you, as you don't need that type of carrying but even then if you stop someonewhere you can alsways put your stuff somewhere so its really convenient.

They have fitment kits for many makes/models.

That'll fit 10 days worth of clothes, gear, etc.

the side mounts are some of the cleanest looking ones i've seen.

Wow! This thing fits a lot more clothing than I thought it would!  Went for a dry run on packing it up and nearly gave a weeks worth of clothes. Toiletries and tire repair kit fit easily into the small Cortech tank bag. Its magnetic but I'm going to rig it so it will stay out on the 1100s tank.

  I picked up a set of these new Nelson-Rigg tail/tank bags for a couple of weekend trips I have planned this summer. Quality seems very good, but what I likes most about the Nelson -Rigg bags are their triple threat mounting system, when ordering you can choose from suction cup, magnet, hooks, or strap mounts.

 

 

 The front bag I ordered with the solar kit which has a panel that charges a lithium ion battery to power/ recharge a phone, GPS, etc..

 

 Both bags are expandable, and there is enough space to carry a couple sets of clothes and toiletries.

Nice!  The solar panel on the tank bag is a great idea!  I may have to look into that too!
