Pope John Paul 2 made an appearance at Laguna Seca raceway in the mid- 80's, in the first popemobile (after he got shot). Funny watching him on the local news waving though the corkscrew.  [laugh]

those poor chaps totally missed the mark on the 80s.  the world wasn't totally preoccupied with war and rebellion.  we lived in relative bliss in those days. I feel very lucky to have grown up in that time where war was a deterrent and not an everyday weight on the shoulders of humanity.  We didn't worry about terrorism on domestic soil unless you count the potential of a world tour by Air Supply.  ah well- can't expect one generation to appreciate those that came before until they've lived a bit.  almost makes me miss my hair- but not quite.

I graduated from high-school in 1980, so it was about as remote in time from now as the settings of "Happy Days" or M*A*S*H were when I watched them in prime time. That's a scary thought!

The Vietnam war is less current to my son now than WWII was to me at his age.

I don't miss the hair, either. I miss my actual hair, but not the styles.

I was at the Presidio of Monterey at that time, and friends of mine were at Laguna Seca for the "Pope Tour" as roadies for that.

Why do roaches always die on their back?

That because the survivors flip them over to steal their sneakers and wallets.
