Take some time to think about it....got a three day weekend coming up
....any riding suggestions
I don't know about this coming weekend, but sometime this fall we should ride Arizona Highway 191 between Alpine and Clifton, AZ (the old route 666 - devil's highway). It's 90-some miles of some of the best riding in America; better than the tail of the dragon in my opinion; not as much "curve-density," but also not as crowded. Highway 191 runs approximately parallel to the NM/AZ border in eastern AZ.
It would require one overnight ... ride it north to south, spend an overnight in Clifton, then ride it south to north on the way home. Decent riding on the way there and back too.

I rode that in June, just as that huge AZ fire had started. If you think that road doesn't have a very high curve density, you're insane. I almost died like five times on that road.
That being said, I'm totally down. Also, the section between Alpine and Springerville is quite nice too, not as technical as south of Alpine, but you can carry way more speed through that section. I might also say that the road north of Clifton for about 10-15 miles is pretty hazardous due to lots of gravel and pitted road surface, at least the last time I was there.

It does have high curve density, but not quite as high as the tail of the dragon. And yes you're right, some sections just north of Clifton are not the best, but the vast majority is pretty decent. I probably can't do it this coming weekend, but it needs to be done before the snow flies.

Yeah, we really only have until the end of September before there's a strong possibility of being snowed out. Even so, it'll probably be cold there. I remember in June, even with 95+ degrees in Albuquerque, it was at warmest, about 65 degrees along 191.

Dunno... weather could be a factor, but hey summers are getting longer these days.
Here's the route I'm thinking of:

Similar route I took, except I took 60 from Quemado to Springerville, and then took 191 down from there. Quemado is a nice little town, kinda a Harley stop though. I remember the only gas station had parking spots reserved for Harleys. I say we bring in a flock of Ducs to stir things up.
There's a nice little place there as well to get brunch if we wanted to as well.

The only problem with that is we'd miss out on some really great riding between Quemado and Reserve.

That wouldn't stop us from stopping in Quemado. I say we stop there for a quick lunch, and then blast down to Alpine. Should be a really fun ride.

Absolutely! We'd probably have to stop there for gas anyway.
