Try living in Australia, speeding over here is almost a shooting offence!

The fastest roads we have is 110 Kph. even in the middle of nowhere on perfectly
flat straight pieces of road, you have to stick to 110Kph. And yes, even in the middle
of no where, hours from any town or civilization, there are cops or speed cameras.  

In some states the speeding tolerance is less then 5Kph over the limit and
your done.

Speed cameras and Speeding Camera vans are hiding everywhere.

Police with speed guns dress in Camo gear and hide in the forest  beside
major roads to get you.

If the Police say they will have Road Safety Blitz, it just means more
Speed Cameras and radars on the road for a week or 2.

A lot of state governments in Australia are short on cash, so they roll out
more Speed Cameras and lower the speed limits all under the banner of road safety.
But is all about making more money.

Australia is the ultimate nanny nation, they keep saying it will lower the road toll.
but the road toll keeps going up and up, and people keep swallowing the lies.

I hate to say this, but sometimes I really hate this country! it is run by retards!

In the Netherlands you are in sh*t when you do more than 50 km/h over the speed limit
Then they will take your licence
Only when someone is killed in a accident you can go to jail
But you must know that the number of people killed by road accidents is about the lowest in the world over here

No wonder Gardner, Bayliss and Stoner took up racing? Shit. We have a lot of open space here (west Texas...) and the cops usually have a sense of humor about it. Sort of... Hell, you are in the middle of nowhere, hours from the next town. What do they care? You crash into something the buzzards will finish you off before the cops find you.

Good luck to the OP on the citiation. I worked in the county courthouse (as did my wife) forever but it was State District criminal court (felonies) so not a lot of traffic ticket experience. Unless it led to a shoot out at the end.

Its not about the money, its about knowing how to play in the crooked system.

with an attorney, you do no jail time, get it reduced or dropped and never gets put on your record, so you arent assigned risk or uninsurable.

Next time, if you commit to speed, you better commit to run, or dont do it on the freeway, where the police live. Remember Highway patrol or ONLY in existance to collect revenue. They have NOTHING to do with fighting real crime. So if you play in the playground with a guy who makes his living as a sneak attack revenue generator, you are going to lose. Every time.

I'm not going to relate my experiences (I was very lucky with a nice judge) -- but get an attorney and don't contest the ticket.  Plea bargain out and pay the bill.  It will be cheaper in the long run.  Then get a racebike and play on the racetrack.

Why?  If you get a judge and an officer  / prosecutor who makes a ruckus in court and you might be spending time in county/state.  Try explaining to your college, family/kids, boss (how much sick/vacation time do you have?), insurance company, girlfriend/wife and more.

A friend in California two years ago decided to fight a high speed (162) / reckless ticket / evasion (Porsche street racing) and fight the legal system.  Local newspaper then had a few headlines (tipped via prosecutor running for local election) and thus he was made an example of for public purposes.  90 days -- 47 served.  Cost him his job and then his house a year later because he couldn't find a comparable job due to the lousy job market.  It took him almost 9 months with assistance at more legal cost to get unemployment.  As his first attorney said -- write the checks and do the voluntary service time and plead mercy on the court and consider it a very expensive lesson learned.  Today he still doesn't have a drivers license and gets around Orange County via public transport / taxi and electric bicycle -- it's a reminder everyday to him.

Gotta agree with most of what is being said here. Without going into the gory details. Reckless driving charge for 98/65. Anything 30 mph over limit is automatic.
This was in VA. of which I was not a resident. Retained a local lawyer, he was in touch with the Judge who would not wave my appearance. Traveled back to VA. met with the attorney 10 minutes before I had to appear before the judge. He asked me if I was polite to the officer who stopped me. He said that would be a big factor in the judge's decision.

End of it all. Travel back/forth to VA. with hotel @ $250.00 . 10 days in jail / suspended . 30 days suspended license in VA.( I could not drive myself away from court). $550.00 fine.
Lawyer and court fees @ $600.00.

Lesson  learned.

I have nothing more to add to what has already been said.  It's unfortunate that it require this kind of trouble for some to learn a lesson.  The legal system might be flawed and you are forced to pay your way out of it.  But you sorta asked for it going at least 45mph over the limit.

My buddy went thru a DUI case a little while ago and paid thru the nose for it.  Now it's finding a designated driver or taking a taxi.  It's better this way.

the trouble with second or more offenses, whether speeding or DWI is that they:

A) Figured you learned nothing the first time.

and

B) You have been at it all along since the first time and they now finally just caught you again

so

C) They will slam you for all the times they did not catch you

While it can't and will not ever be said...that IS the "school of thought" that is looking at you from the Bench when it is repeat offenses

I'm lucky to live in an area that doesn't pay much attention to casual speeding (10-15 over, keeping pace with traffic, etc. ) unless you're sporting an out of state license plate. That, and knowing where the good unpatrolled roads are have kept my license clean for the past few years.

Bottom line; Get a lawyer, pay a fine, move on.
