2-  still a 14yr old kid flying alone, he's respecting authority and sitting where he was told. too bad the authority wasn't looking out for him

southwest is open seating, you sit wherever you want.

Maybe this is not the first lawsuit coming out of this case.

Was it you?

You are about as tall as most 14 year olds or shorter (I am as tall as 16 yr olds if that makes you feel better)

I am throwing it out there.........flame me if you want folks.

Your good friend statler may be a better source than myself on this

but

Personal injury (physical and emotional) cases involving children sometimes are pushed out until the child is no longer a minor

and

the standard 2 year statute of limitations is given an extension until the child is of age

depending on the age of consent in illinois this might be the answer to your query

well, seeing as how college cost way more than $50K, unless his dad is investing it reather aggressively, i don't think so.

14 y/o is what, 9th grade (it was for me)?

Plenty old enough to fly alone and not be worried about by the flight attendants IMO. I'm with Metallimonster.

Maybe he's leaving out a key part of the story to good ol' dad...he didn't ask to change seats...he asked to move to the restroom with his cougar!  [beer]  [laugh] His dad had to come and get him!  [evil]

I'm tellin you man, I would have been all over it.  My 14 year old brain would not have let me walk away from that one.

I think dad was mad that she was hotter than mom.

what if it was a nasty cougar and the boy was still unsure of himself.

personally i would ahve been very freaked out by someone my mom's age hitting on me at that age.
i grew up in a pentacostal family and despite the fact that we left that church by the time i was 10, at 32 i still havne't stopped thinking that way in a few areas.

as a devil's advocate type thing how about this.
maybe the boy was scared to say exactly why he wanted to change seats and the flight attendants were busy or didn't have a seat for him. had he been able to tell them what was going on away from the offending drug lady maybe he woud have been moved.

just another take on it is all...i do think that it is just as inappropriate for an adult female to hit on an underage boy as it is for an adult male to hit on a female that is that young.

All of the above would be state specific to Illinois.

If you remember, a 13yr old filed a suit against Michael Jackson in California in 1993; the first of his many.

But that goes back to my first point.........probably some statute of limitations or maybe in IL you have to be of a certain age.

Again..........convenient it is filed a day before the 2 year anniversary of the Cougar Attack.

Community College doesn't.

Maybe Daddy has some saved up, but just short of the rest.

Who knows. Who cares. It also doesn't specify how much the suit is for. It just said "over $50,000" in damages.

I just found it to be an odd time to file the lawsuit.

I agree

But the a 14y/o was too scared to fly home by himself? C'mon.

I just read this. This is a lot more serious than you guys are making it.

The 14yrold was flying unaccompanied probably due to a divorce situation.
wow, i mean my own children have to due this, and i would absolutely freak if the attendants let this happen to them.

THOUSANDS of children have to due this every year. Knowing that the airline attendants did not assist this kid is extremely upsetting. Making an example of this airline is probably a big part of the situation for the lawsuit. Airlines have special programs for kids in these situations, not sure he was on it as they are allowed to fly alone at 14 without the program. Even still, letting a child, which a 14 yr old still is, stay in that situation on the plane is totally irresponsible.

maybe if parents were more responsible they would supervise their kids when sending them on a plane across the coutnry, you expect others to watch your kid for you?  sorry but that is irresponsible and selfish.

Its not the airline's job to take care of your kid even if you fly on a plane, the kid is under 18, its your job as a parent to supervise them, it may be hard but its not their job to do what is your job.  this isn't like your kid is going to school where the JOB of the teacher is to watch over your children.

So I am trying to get us all more info on this one, so of course as a no brainer, I went to the Chicago Tribune's website.

I haven't found anything on this thread topic, but found this quite amusing:

God damn, that just ended my work day with a laugh, now to head to the range.

Ok, that's all I got.

JJGeo,

here is a quote for you from the story:

"They failed to protect him. They allowed an individual to get intoxicated on that flight. That person was harassing my client sexually as well as trying to give him drugs. He was a very scared little boy."

Scared little boy??? come on.

Raux - My guess was correct.................he was flying down to Florida to visit relatives.
