Im going to be guilty of doing this, but i run it on low pressure and stop before it even begins to get tighten. It would be just enough to get most of the screw in, then i swtich to hand tools to tigthen it and torque it.

Same here.  I have gotten very good at "feeling" the torque, but I always final tighten with a wrench.

I have considered buying a set of those torque limiting kits, but i think they only go up to like 175 or 200 ftlbs.. (edit...150ftlbs)

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

for almost everything hex key wise, i use this

if i you let it rattle once, it does about 5ft-lbs on an m6 and if you get good at it its pretty repeatable and i do things really quickly with it. i stoped used hex keys for a lot of things.

those torque limiting extentions are cool, but what would you use it on? they are 65 ft-lbs+  if i could set my impact driver gun to slip at increments of 5, i would be using it to tighten EVERYTHING....maybe i should invent some type of clutch impact driver that does that...

I only ever use the impact wrench as a removal tool, never as a nut putter-onerer.

I don't use one at all, for anything.  :D

You can't hurry something up and care about it.  ;)
If the state had not cut funding for the mental institutions, this project could never have happened.

Got home last night...plugged in my impact wrench and started wrenching away and NADA! ZIP! NOTHING the make the beast with two backsen thing won't budge.  I tried using silicone spray, tapped the nut w/a mallet, waited, tried again same results.

Should I concede defeat? Anything else I can try?

arai_speed

I called my local DucaPrialliaAgustaGuzzi dealer and they quoted me $20 to mount balance a tire if I take the wheel or $59+tax if the wheel is on the bike.  I guess the extra $40+ is for the use of a lift and their shop time  :-\

So should I buy a huge 9ft breaker bar?  [bang]

He Man

9 ft? who the make the beast with two backs sells a breaker bar thats NINE make the beast with two backsing feet.

are you sure the thing is going the right way?
how are you keeping the wheel from moving? (in gear? on the floor? with the brake lever?)

Maybe kawasaki brand just sucks, ive used the northen tool one and it works fine

arai_speed

I was kidding about the 9ft breaker bar   :)

I'm sure I'm going the right way  I checked.

The rear wheel is on the floor.  I didn't buy the Kawasaki wrench, I got the one from Harbor Freight.  The unit seems to spin just fine...except when it's in place to remove the nut.  :-\

If you're absolutely sure that your impact wrench is attempting to reverse the nut off and not trying to ram it further on.... then it beats me.  Even with the bike on a rear wheel stand with the rear wheel free to turn, mine spins the nut off so fast it almost seems like a waste of time getting the wrench out of its box (until you try to do it the hard way).

1000ft/lb max output.

This WILL take the nut off.  You need a compressor thoough.
That being said, I've had good luck with the dewalt electric impact for taking off alternator pulleys and such.

Same here.  Had the bike on rear stand and nut came off effortlessly.

I ended up taking the bike to the dealer - in a way it worked out as they noticed the clutch was grabbing and they were able to bleed and adjust the system in a way that I had never been able to.   So now a new tire and a nice soft easy pulling clutch made for a good sunday ride.

I will return my HB tool and look into buying a better one much later.

Thanks for all the tips.

Buy an inexpensive used air compressor local. You can use it for other things also. Then get a good american made air impact. You won't regret it.
I've had mine for 30 years.
