What's all of the grumbling about? I like it and would definitely ride it. [moto]
Ducati is a business you know. There is no shame in trying to reel in another market.
And to all of you who are complaining about the stock exhaust...Why do you care?
Seriously... it's another Ducati that will come from the factory with a shotgun style exhaust. You've already seen and accepted this exhaust on other models. It's nothing new.
Stock motorcycle exhausts are ranked #1 on the proverbial list of expendable parts that the consumer will immediately remove and replace with an aftermarket alternative. So the way I see it, as long as the manufacturer (Ducati in this case) can produce a stock exhaust that meets EPA noise standards and has an acceptable basic design for the aftermarket to base their product on (the shotgun - You've seen it and accepted it), you really shouldn't waste too much energy hating it.
Honestly, I think this is all "fat tire" hate.

All models except the new Multi, mostly because the old Multi was so freaking ugly, were completely trashed.

Even the Hyper was trashed for the duck bill.

People griped about the beak on the new Multi too... i admit I don't care for the beak much... Doesn't mean I don't want one after getting a chance to ride one.

Trellis frame is gone.
Exhaust routed forward and then back, possibly to pull the rear swingarm pivot in tighter for better handling.
Also looks like some sort of evolving new engine. Doesn't exactly look like a 90* layout.
Tail section looks clean but that will likely change by the time it hits production.
Got my interest for sure but I don't feel a burning hole in my pocket yet. (Because money is still trickling out into the 848
)

I actually own an H-D, but it's kept out-of-state and ridden by others.
Dollars to donuts the headlight goes. As Duc-Stew mentioned, lots of parts bin stuff. I dig the bike though. I also dig what this company is doing. Times are tough, a lot of Japanese manufacturers are laying back and Ducati is out creating interesting new bikes. And there is always that artistic Italian gene present through it all. As incomplete as it is, this bike looks like it will be not radically different, but at least pretty damn cool. The Multi was a pretty bold move. And if I could afford it, I'd probably buy one beak and all. I think it's great what Ducati is doing. It's also smart market-share wise.
And whoever commented on HD being run like an oil company, is spot on. Only a corporate mentality could have sold off MV after they finally create a sweet F4 and then do the unspeakable to Buell. Ass hats running that board.

Part V-rod, part V-Max, part new Monster - there should be a "V" in the name - V-Monster? I like it OK, better than any of its competitors.

welll whether we like it or not, it's gonna be made.
now if it sticks around or goes like the Indiana... we'll see.
personally I hope the next two projects Ducati is working on are the ST and SS replacements
development costs for both would be VERY low
the ST would use the new MTS lowered with body work
the SS would use the new Monster platforms with bodywork and clipons and new rearsets

I'll bet you just about anything that Ducati thinks the new Multistrada
is
the ST replacement.

that is a mistake after the new Honda and Triumph Sport Tourers came out this year.
the MTS is too 'offroady' for those who are looking for more wind protection for the long highways and autobahns.
