Clutch safety switch.  The ecu will kill the engine if the clutch isn't in (switch contacts made, or plunger in the 'IN' position) and the sidestand is down.  With the switch removed, the ecu 'thinks' that the clutch is always pulled in.  It has no other effect on the system.

Some Suzuki's ecu's have a built-in part of the program that limits ignition timing and fuel delivery if the clutch is pulled in in an attempt to raise MPG and lower emissions.  To my knowledge, Ducati's efi systems do not do this.

It does serve a function, but if you're careful about pulling the clutch in when starting and NOT trusting the 'N' neutral light then don't worry about it.

ooo that gives me an idea.

a toggle switch in a hidden place using the clutch switch wiring.

gotta toggle it to start. at least when not in neutral

but it would have to be a momentary type switch... somthing that resets itself...

Mr.Saturn

My ASV levers have an arm that will depress the clutch switch.  It appears to be missing from yours; did you buy used?  You may have gotten an older model.  I'll go snap a pic or two so you can see the difference.

Mr.Saturn

Upon closer inspection of your pictures, you have the hole tapped for the toggle switch bracket.  The bracket is missing however.  Might wanna call ASV and see if they can send you one.
