I just saw picture of that 'thing' in cycle world. 

It would look a lot better if you moved that bike in the front out of the way ;D

what is the black box thing that is on the 696 where the oil cooler would go?  is that an air scoop? 

does it come with an oil cooler or have an oil cooler option for the bike?

I *think* it's an intake snorkel for the airbox

pretty sure when the DP parts catalog was posted a while back that an oil cooler was an option.
