Help please if you can. I have an I-mac which is super . Recently ,say for about the last week or so it has been acting up. When I click on something the page jiggles about and there is a clicking noise. Sometimes my mouse is not working the way it should and when I am posting a message on a forum the scroll bar on the side of the pafge just heads south. It scrolls down at warp speed and there is no stopping it. I moved my mouse into different ports and it has made no difference.Sometimes i have to bang the mouse a little on the mouse pad to make things better. I wiped the mouse pad down with a damp cloth as my landldy has a cat and I wondered if the was dander on it. Still no difference. I let the mouse pad dry overnight. Now my questions are these.......
Has anyone ever experienced this before with an I-mac?
Is my mouse which came with the machine on its way out?
Is my machine needing some work.
Money is tight, very tight in fact, and I wanted to know in what direction I needed to go into before I spend money on un needed parts such as a mouse if its an internal machine problem.
Any help would be super as I know nothing about these infernal machines except how to turn them on.......and thats not by kissing caressing or any other rude way you guys can think about. [laugh]
Thanks
Erica.

My wife's had an I-Mac for about a year and never experienced such things. It does sound like there is an issue with the pad itself. I have had similar issues on windows based laptops before and was just given a new one by IT.

Is yours still under warranty?

I know Mac just recently released an external mouse, but not sure what the cost is for this pad like device.

How old is the machine? Did you get Apple Care?

Apple has a limited warranty but if you paid for Apple Care when you bought it it should have extended it for 2 or 3 years. Why don't you just take the computer into a Mac store and have them take a look at it, or at least call them and see if you are still under some kind of warranty.

Sometimes things like that are software issues, check to see if there are any software updates that need to be installed:
Click the Apple icon at the top left of the screen
Click software update
Install anything on the list that pops up

If you call or go in to a store and tell them the problem, sounds like it's just the mouse, they may just give you another mouse. Apple is usually pretty good about that kind of stuff.

See if you can borrow another mouse, either bluetooth or USB, and see if it still does it.

I did see a new version of Safari was released, and if you're plugging a mouse in I am assuming an older machine, which may have a bug, but I don't want to jump to conclusions until the mouse is tested.

it would help to know what version of the mouse you have....

does it have the little grey scrolling ball on the top like this one?

if yes, try this:
get a clean sheet of white paper
turn the mouse upside down on the sheet of paper
press down and drive the mouse in all directions on the paper
this will clean the track ball

if this doesn't work, your mouse may have a hair or something interfering with it's laser

badgalbetty

that is the kind of mouse I have....I'll try and clean it up! Thanks! [thumbsup]

I didn't know they made "PC" style mouses for the laptops.

I thought only the trackpad device was how to control most functionality?

Apple does however, make a trackpad to use with (their) desktops now.  http://www.apple.com/magictrackpad/

And unfortunately that model mouse is the lamest ever.  That stupid scroll ball eventually gums up no matter how much you clean it.  Replace it (with something else) when you get a chance.
