new tire needed, where to go?
«
on:

I checked the local resources area of the board, but there isn't listed any place for tires (unless I'm blind, which I've been accused of).
It's time for a new one so I'm looking for recommendations on where to get the tire changed. I don't have the tools nor the knowledge nor the desire to remove the wheel/tire so I'm looking for a place that I can ride to and wait for it. I'm in the East Bay near I-580 and I-680.
As far as tire recommendations, I'm a novice rider and this first rear tire lasted 5700 miles over two years. Obviously NOT tearing up the roads. So if any of the knowledgeable ppl out there care to recommend a long lasting tire, that'd be great. How long should a rear tire last anyway?
Ciao!

Depends on how you ride, your bike, etc. I get maybe 3000 out of a rear on the superbike, many more on my 2 valver.
I can't vouch for places in the east bay, but most decent shops (e.g. Nichols out by you) can do tires.

I've gotten tires done at Subterranean Cycles in SF and Santa Clara Cycles in the South Bay. Sorry no closer recommendations for you.
I got over 10k out of my Pilot Road 2's. They work great in the rain and the twisties as well.

Thanks all for the recommendations and advice.
Anyone know/use European Motorcycle Accessories in Pleasanton?
http://www.ema-usa.com/
They're open M-F so I might go there just so I can go to Santana Row on Monday night. [moto]

Most will sell you a tire, but won't install it.

The CG in Dublin will mount the rubber on the wheel if you bring the wheels in off the bike. Usually I can't get same day service. It depends how busy they are.

10k !!!! awesome. I have a little over 3k on mine and I love them. Not sure I will get the same amount of mileage out of them considering the amount of slab I ride. So far they are holding up great.

I used to go to KC engineering in the city. They do it while you wait.

Stay away from there at all costs. They've been known to sell plugged tires as new.

That's not a good thing to be known for. I'm glad they didn't sell any to me.
