Its time i get some new rubber on my 848, the stock pirrelli dragon supercorsa pro lasted me about 8k miles and ive been using them the last 1.5k with a pronounced flat spot on the rear tire. my question is what do you guys recommend for my next set. ive done some reading and checked with dealer as to whats in stock. as of know my options are:

perelli corsa III
front $219.99
rear  $294.99

Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa
front $174.99
rear  $230.99

Michelin Pilot Pure
front $174.99
rear  $223.99

Dunlop Sportmax Q2
front $189.99
rear  $259.99

i am looking for a good balance between longevity and cornering... i cant afford new tires every 2k miles even if they stick like glue to the road. any info on these tires or any others you might suggest would be greatly appreciated

Some tires are better suited to the track. What kind of riding do you do? What level of rider are you? I'm just asking you to be honest: don't waste $$$ buying tires designed to operate "outside your envelope". Personally, I'm slower than an arthritic turtle so I can ride to my "limit" on lower performance tires (Pirelli Diablo). The supercorsas would be overkill for me. Friends who I ride with are very happy with the Dunlop Q2s and the 2CTs form Michelin.
IF your looking to save a few bucks, there is a nationally known chain of stores that are having an after hours sale onf the Q2s next week. You can pick up a SET - front and rear -for $199.

8K miles is amazing from Supercorsa Pros!  :o

Personally I'd go with either Pilot Power 2cts or Pilot Pures. The Pures are nice because they are lighter than other comparable tires, which will make the bike handle better.

Really, you can't go wrong with any of those tires though.

there are no tracks on my neck or the island, most of my riding (sadly) is on the freeway. i do like to hit the twisties on the weekend but doubt i am doing anything near the full capabilitys of the bike and stock tires.

The chain is Cycle Gear and the after hours sale is August 19th. I think they want you to pre order to ba assured of having some on the day of the sale. I wish I got 8k out of any set of tires. Maybe on my ST4?

have you considered ordering online and having someone else do the install?  i ordered mine and had them shipped to a bike shop.

actually i am looking into these ones

http://stores.sportbiketrackgear.com/Detail.bok?no=7218

and since they ship free to the lower 48 i plan on having them go to the frieght forwarders that send all the product to my work and hopefully they can toss the tires in the deadspace with my company cargo. but i wont know till tomorrow.

so now the big question is how much will a shop charge me to install tires that they didnt sell me.

oh and all the prices i listed above included mounting and balancing.

Typical prices for the set are $80-$100 but in paradise everything costs more.

i just wanted to say thanks for all the input and as of today my game plan is to buy

for $260.00 with free shipping to California
then use my work contact to get free shipping to hawaii
then use the bike shop next to my work to put the tires on my bike for $80+tax

so the only down side is waiting the 2 weeks for them to get here from California
but since its free i cant really complain.

so all in all new tires installed on my bike for about $340 bucks  ;D

you will like them, I put a pair on my 900 and it transformed the bike,

not the fastest tires on the turn-in, but the lighter weight helps offset that

but boy that contact patch with the road is rock solid

I only have 500 miles on mine so I don't know how far they will go

keep an eye on your cold pressure...mine seem to be weepy over the course of a week

not sure if its my valves or what, my bead and rims are pristine but I still lose a pound or 2 of pressure

when the bike sits
