tail light only turns on when braking? It does not ignite when the bike is running or put into park. just when brakes are applied. any suggestion would be appreciated. thanks

This the stock bulb?  IF so it's got 2 filaments in the bulb - the one for the runnign light might well have just burned out. Occasionally the connections can work loose back there too - easy to check either/both

check to see if you have power there. you should have one ground, one brake power, and one running power. check if the bulb is good first though, then check through the wiring. then trace backwords to where the power should be coming from. good luck!

If the running light filament on the bulb is blown, you'll clearly see it if you pull the bulb and look at it.

That filament is very short lived on Monsters. There's a lot of vibration and since that filament is always hot, it's more fragile than the brake filament.

Many of us have gone to LED bulbs after getting tired of replacing 1157 bulbs every few months. Others haven't found it to be a problem Undecided  I'm in the LED camp.

But as others have noted, corrosion on the contacts and general sloppy misalignment of the bulb may also be the cause of your symptoms... but my money is on the filament Wink
