i heard  many bad things about it and vibration on certain bikes for the contour.

If you wanted  one thats really good for helmets, the drift camera is sick. it even has an LCD on the side to viw the video.

HD takes a lot of CPU power to watch and edit smoothly, and most people have slow uploads so HD is really not there yet as far as being able to share it like a regular video. but the gopro HD is sick! I would get it for the sole fact that it has a rechargeable battery. worth its weight in gold. standard NiMH on a high vibration motorcycle kills its power. i only get about 30-60 mins of recording time.

I have Contour HD and GoPro HD wide angle. Here's the latest video I made (shot with those two.)

Can you tell which cut was taken which one?
I personally prefer Contour HD, which I purchased first. Mostly because ease of use.

I got a Go-Pro several years ago when they were advertising in Sky Mall Magazine.

It looked cool, so I bought one.

I have been through a few since and now have the HD one as the quality is better and I like the re-chargeable battery function, but most importantly, it holds 32gb SD card, the biggest limiting factor of the older models.

Derby is correct. One was tested on an Indy Car, not sure if it was done by Go-Pro, but my best friend had one mounted on his car at Watkins Glen during practice. I guess one of his crew members had one and wanted to test how strong the suction cup was.

So, they tested it. Of course they safety-wired the entire assembly on in case it didn't hold, but the sucker did.

I will post the video of it tonight. It is pretty cool. It doesn't vibrate much at all and you can see the wind actually coming over the aerodynamic sections of the car. It was mounted on the left side, by the engine, so there is a TON of vibration.

It is an older model, so not the new HD one.

If you get a good mount with that suction cup...........it won't come off, but good advice was given:

use a lanyard or some sort of safety wiring; I do at all times, even when I use the helmet mount 3m brackets. I just don't want to lose a 200$ camera when it takes me 30 seconds to safety it up.

I was wrong about the track. This is mounted on my best friends Menard's car last year.

It was at barber where the video was taken:

This is a first generation Go-Pro mounted with the suction mount, safety wired in case of a malfunction that didn't happen.

From telemetry on the car, it was pulling 3-5 G-Forces during the lap.

Enjoy.

It is worth the extra step if you have to become a fan to view it. It really shows a real life use of a go-pro camera on the suction mount and what it can really handle.

Well.... all psyched up early Monday am.

Got breakfast, got geared up, put the Go Pro on the top of my Helmet w, the mount and used the Suction cup plus put a string on the mount and tied it to my Jacket zipper.

Took off for the hills.

Got to a stretch of twisty road, stopped , took the camera out of it's plastic protective case , pushed the mode button, pushed the shutter button , the red light flashed to let me know that it was recording .

I gently put it back in the plastic case , and sped off.

I tore up that stretch of road like never before.

When I got to the end of that stretch I stopped and turned it off.

Then rode to the next very twisty stretch of 13 miles of great road.

I repeated the process and when that stretch was done I was near small town so decided to get gas.

I checked the camera at the gas Station and turned it off.

I then picked a way out of town that had a fairly open stretch although short, and ran the bike to 100 mph and the mount stayed put.

After supper I go to watch my great video ....nothing.

There is absolutely nothing recorded on the card.?

I did what the instructions said from the start process to the viewing process.

check to see if it was set up to store what you did as a video or as a series of pics and, check to see if it's set to save to the card and not the internal memory. if its set to internal, you may have a limited set of stored stuff in the internal section. (assuming the camera had an internal/ card setting and storage area)

and or you may not have actually turned it on. my camera has to be turned on.... and then you hit the button again to have start recording. If you push the putton too long, it'll shut the camera off. I lost a video last week doing that (I was being followed by a Desmosidici the intire ride)

as a side note .... be carefull riding with a camera..... the urge to push it a lil more than normal for the cool shot can come back to bite you.

been there, done that.

What brand and size SD did you have in the camera?

Do you have an older model or the new HD one?

It has a 2 SGB card.

I would say it is the original one.

Hi Joel,
All I know about the settings on the Camera is that the Camera automatically defaults to video each time it's turned on.

Yeah, I know what you mean about trying pushing hard ...it felt real good and I don't think I was anywhere too near out of control.

Just a good thing no  [leo] were ever spotted.

Dolph    :)

My original one would randomly just cut-off while riding at times.

It would be on my helmet and just shut off.

Battery would be fine, plenty of space on SD card, etc.

It was odd.

Ruined my lanesplitting across the Golden Gate in San Fran, the wild ride through the city, and my eventually smacking of a BMW's mirror with the bike I was ridings mirrow.

Ooops.

remember, on the original, if you go over the time the SD Card can hold, I believe it corrupts the whole file.

I think that is the case, it just doesn't "stop"

the technology on the first generation ones sucked.

Jud,
That sounds exactly like what probably happened.
