OZ Racing Wheels

I picked up a set of OZ Racing wheels from Motowheels, and thought some here might be interested in the weights and look of them. As always, Motowheels was awesome! Ordered on Monday morning, and they arrived Thursday with tires mounted and balanced. 

They're for use on my trackbike, but I'd put them on a street bike as well....they look fantastic. 

The weights below include rotors (front) and tires. The tires are all Pirellis, but different models...so the comparison isn't exact, but you still get a good idea of the weight difference.

OEM 3-Spoke: Front = 27.2 lb; Rear = 25.4 lb

Marchesini 5-Spoke: Front = 25.6 lb; Rear = 24.4 lb

OZ Racing: Front = 23.8 lb; Rear = 21.6 lb

These seem to be the lightest rims except for BSTs and Marchesini forged magnesium...both of which cost almost twice as much. The OZ wheels seem to be a good deal.

I also installed a set recently on my DSS  bike (thread in the tech section) but I was unable to get weights.  Your numbers are similar to my arm feel - huge reduction in the weight of the rear, probably even moreso for me due to the much lighter cushdrive assembly.

i'm glad you had good luck with'em. i got mine friday and the rear rim has anodizing scratched off and the other 2 wheels they have in stock are the same. the next OZ order is mid to late september.

Are those Marchesini's cast or forged?

I don't know. I believe they are stock wheels from a 996/998 (whatever model came with the 5-spoke). I'm guessing forged as they have the cut-outs on the fork arms, but I'm not sure how reliable that detail is for telling betwen forged and cast. The 5 spokes on my MTS are cast for sure and don't have the cut-outs though.  According to Motowheels, the OZ wheels are lighter than the new Marchesini forged aluminum.

here's the actual weight of OZ DSS 25mm/17mm wheels

front 7.0lbs
rear 11.6lbs w/cush, sprocket carrier, and sprocket carrier hardware.

the wheels have the bearings installed

those weights are from a digital bathroom scale, but i going to weigh them on a more accurate scale.

triple J, have you noticed a difference riding with the new wheelset? going from 3 spoke brembo w/ diablo strada's to oz wheel, 25mm front axle, and pilot power 2 i'll save a little over 10lbs.

since i haven't ridden the wheels yet, it's hard to comprehend the weigh savings on paper to real life.

My next trackday is Labor Day weekend, so I'll report back then. I expect/hope it will be more nimble...by how much I'm not sure. Everyone I've talked to has said that lighter wheels make a very noticeable difference.

Will you be readjusting the suspension?  Lighter wheels should make the forks/shock behave differently, shouldn't they?

I'd think not, as the wheels are unsprung weight.

I'm not sure. I'll have the suspension set-up again if I need to. I've gotten a bit quicker since the last time it was done, so its probably about due anyway.

I wondered the same thing.  My impression from the first ride (75miles in the hills, not the track) was that I need to add a little damping, which I will try.  Smooth surfaces were fine, but choppy areas were different.  I collected video of the front wheel/caliper/fork slider area and it seems to support this.  The extra bite on the brakes is another reason to add some compression damping on the forks.
