Thanks again you guys. You really gave Melissa a smile in the hospital last night. She is home now and doing really well. Vicodin is keeping the pain at bay and she is eating and drinking just fine. She is walking around a bit and can get to and from the bathroom on her own. Overall she is doing great and has really appreciated all of the warm wishes from her friends, family and creepy internet friends.  ;)

The surgery she had was a hysterectomy. This is fairly routine as far as major surgery goes, but the trick is that the surgeon never really knows what she is going to find until she is in there. Luckily with Melissa they found just a bit of endometriosis and healthy ovaries and gall bladder. So the surgery went pretty much as planned. The best part is that her sister told her about the Da Vinci machine:

http://www.davincisurgery.com/davinci-procedures/gynecology/davinci-hysterectomy.html

It turns out she was a good candidate for it and that our insurance covered it. Her surgeon was just great. Very matter of fact lady who was thorough in the information she gave us as well as in the post operative care she prescribed. Melissa shared her room with a nice lady who also had a hysterectomy and that lady's doctor was not nearly so involved in his patient's comfort and care after she left the recovery room. We feel very very fortunate that Melissa had such a good surgeon.

She has been in just tremendous pain the past six months. The past couple of months she couldn't even walk the puppies. She is really looking forward to living without pain and having her life back again.

Cheers.
