You know now I'm really leaning towards finding a
used
pre-owned Termignoni full sytem with matching DP ECU off a
crashed
retired 999. I've seen a set only once or twice on ebay and it has always been when there's no budget for moto parts that month. Oh well, where's the fun in owning a motorcycle if you could just go find parts everywhere all the time

I think that's the smartest choice, as long as you keep insisting on keeping that thing

I have PCIIIs on both my 750 and 1000 GSXRs and on my old 'Busa. Steve Upchurch programed the 750 and 'Busa and Randy McCarter downloaded one for the 1000. All work(ed) perfectly. Zero problems. I also have a Dan Kyle tuned PCIII on the Hayden Rep RC51 with Sato exhaust... also works perfectly. I have a PCV for the new 'Busa but it's not installed/tuned yet. Friends at Action Kawi/Suzi have steered me toward a PC/dyno genius at North Dallas Honda/Suzuki on the I-35 service road but I can't remember the dude's name. When I get around to having it done I'll get his name from Action.
Don't know anyone who has one on a Ducati. Maybe PC doesn't speak Italian?
when i put a pc3 on an s2r800 several years back i took it to honda/suzuki north initially for a tune, since they were a certified shop. picked it up and it ran like crap...wouldn't even idle, and popped worse than when i brought it to them. i took it back, and they basically told me tough shit, they had tuned it properly and that was that. after a bunch of back and forth arguing i was able to get some of my money back for the tuning, but it was a crappy experience. not sure if it's most of the same staff there now; maybe the service crew now is better with PC3s. i do know that after taking it to them, i then took it to jim sabin, and he treated me right and got it all sorted out for me; very cool guy.

I'm 99% sure the Guzzi had inconsistent voltage delivery; sometimes 13's other times MAYBE 14.2 but not for long. No ECU could work well in that environment. Eventually, all things electrical were replaced and I just gave up on the beast. Life's too short. Which brings me back to my favorite bike in the world; my banana yellow, stickered-up, go-fast 999... that just sounds kinda lame

I had a Dan Kyle-tuned PC III on my 1098 and loved it. It was good all over, and never had any problems with the setup. Is a single computer setup optimal? Probably. But if you have a good map on a PC III, you should be good to go.
I assume the 999 is like the 1098, in that the PC III is only effective above a certain RPM threshold, like 5k or so. So you'd still probably need the "race" ECU, and the PC would just be for fine tuning.

I kind of agree. I mean, then at least you have it while you figure out how you want it tuned, etc.
