Failure to Introduce Myself - Hello CAMers

I just realized despite all the help everyone has provided me regarding my 08 695, I failed to properly introduce myself.

My name is Wunmi and my 08 Ducati Monster 695 is my first motorcycle.  I've been a huge admirer of Ducati's for some time but was too scared to get one because I thought I would inevitably kill myself (I'm a bit of an adrenalin junky - love mountain biking and driving everything from remote control cars to my actual car as fast as can be but under control).

After almost getting a Hypermotard and constantly drooling over a friends 999 I took the plunge and bought a used one in July with 3800 miles on the odometer. Since then, I've been obsessed with understanding, drooling and modding this monster. In having my moto license for 3 months I've somehow found a way to put more than 3K miles on it, ridden it from MD to Connecticut and back.

I'm looking forward to understanding my Monster and becoming an overall better rider and drinking some beers and having a general good time. I'll be at Chadiwick's tomorrow with my project Duc.

Here are some before pictures:

Some people are like Slinkies. They're really good for nothing; however, they can still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs.

See folks... that's how it's done. An intro post with pix!

Welcome - your summer sounds a bit like my first with a license and my 620 - about 1k a month, just go go going.

Enjoy the 695... that black on red is one of my favorite looks - sharp!

Welcome to the board and congrats on the bike! I really like the black swingarm and triples, been thinking of doing that to my bike for a while  [drool]

Here are the latest look of my Duc.

Thus far have removed the stock headlamp and replaced it with dual headlights, removed the stock taillight and replaced with a Light Werks integrated taillight with turn signals.  Added CRG levers and Rimoza grips. Fortunately, the bike game with the full termi exhaust kit installed :). Next task is to find a fully adjustable front shock, rear shock, adjustable clip=on bars, Brembo goldline brakes, a nice digital gauge and maybe an M900 engine.

There's an Ohlins shock for sale that is the right model

If you can find the forks from an S2R1000, S4 or S4R (when they first came out, before the radial caliper mounts) those bolt right up. Or there's a couple options for cartridge kits that replace the internal suite.

Has it got a 14t sprocket yet? A very inexpensive and easy to do mod, that sure made my 620 feel like a new bike.

Sorry to say, you don't have a full Termi system, just slip-ons - full implies that it's all the pipes, from the engine heads on back. Those are just slip-ons. Though it might be the full race kit they offered, with the ECU, filter and slip-ons.

And while I'm nit-picking - you gotta hide that one electrical connector on the right side that used to be covered by that pod. It'll just slide off a tab and you can zip-tie it to the upper frame rail.

a nice digital gauge and maybe an M900 engine.

Depending on how much you want to spend on a digital gauge, you can get a trail tech vapor for cheap on ebay and it works pretty well. Not as nice as Moto Gadget, but much much cheaper.

As for the 900 engine, you might need to do some research since it runs on carbs while you have a fuel injected system so it's not just plug and play.

Thanks for the ed regarding the termi's. You are most likely right with it being the full race kit as the ECU and filter were changed when the termi's were put on.

Already liking this group a lot. Keep the comments and suggestions coming along. Always looking to improve this monster.

There's FI 900s... like mine! Folks have done the 900 swap, but there's more to it than just plugging in a new power plant. As enke said, your ECU is not going to run the 900... well it might until you burn up something due to running SUPER lean. Folks have used after market ECUs to over come that issue.... But as you might figure it aint cheap.

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

Just learned at the CAM meetup a Chadwick's I could bore out the motor and add 750 pistons to increase the power. Also changing the sprockets will increase the punch of my little monster.

The choices, oh the choices.

I forgot about that one .... :-[

Wunmi, good to meet you last night!  [thumbsup]

Sorry now, but I'll have to cut down on your choices ... your 695 already has the same bore as the 750, just a shorter stroke. I just checked on bike boy and 695, 750 and 800 all have the same bore of 88 mm.

The 620 has the same stroke as the 750 but a bore of 80mm so if you had a 620 you could theoretically swap in the cylinders and head from a 750.

7508861.5748
6958857.2696

I believe the shorter stroke of the 695/696 engines allows them to rev up higher (and better) and produce more HP. You could in theory swap in the crankshaft and rods from a 620 but then you would have head clearance issues and costs would rise ridiculously.

My suggestion is to pretty much leave the bike as it is. Learn to ride it well, get a few track days under your belt so you can push it closer to the limit and put on some frame sliders, they will save you a $#!% load of money if you ever lay the bike.

Cheers,
Massimo

Get the suspension tuned up and the bike will be faster... well Not technically... but the ability to exploit the speed will be greater. When I went from a 620 to my 900 with it's shiney suspension bits, the increased power was nice (won't lie) but it was the better suspension that made the most impression over all. If my 620 had the same quality of suspension as my 900 does (and I was aware of the difference) I might still have that 620.
