Hey CAMmers,

I know some of you saw pictures of the custom "Super Sport Classic" that Donnie built for me on Facebook, but I figured I'd post it here too. It started off as a '99 SuperSport 900, but Donnie did some custom fitting and put on the Sport Classic track body work and a custom belly pan. She is hot!

I am in the process of fabricating some lights and turn signals that can easily be removed so I can make it street legal.  I'll have an integrated license plate/brake light/turn signal for the rear and also an integrated headlight/turn signal for the front. Donnie left all the relays and the wire harnesses tucked into the bike, but i don't know where to find a schematic of what all the wires are. Does anyone know how I can figure that out?

Also, I am looking for a spare front and rear wheel that I can mount some street tires on. Does anyone have anything that will work with this bike? I know a couple of you out there have played around with Supersports before...

No spares for yah here - but AFAIK something off a Monster 900, 2000 and older *should* be a straight swap. OF course there's lots of aftermarket wheel makers...
-Throttle's on the right, so are the brakes.  Good luck.

I've still got the spoked wheels that came stock on the SC.  They're awfully heavy though...

Those won't be a straight swap - they would need new bearings, and possibly some spacers to fit right. The Axle size on the older bikes is smaller, and they had space for a mechanical speedo drive up front.

Besides... who wants dorky spokes  :P

Maybe I'll just keep it simple and put some dual compound tires on like I did with my monster...

I am running into all kinds of weird issues just trying to plug in the lights I made for this bike. It seems like someone really messed up the wiring at some point. Some of the odd behavior is: 1) There is no power going to the front headlight or turns, 2) the switch for the brights turns the tail-light off and on, 3) removing the fuse for the turn signals causes the the lights on the gauge cluster to turn on, and there are few more I can't remember right now. It seems like there is either a short somewhere or it's just simply not wired up right. If anyone wants to come help me trouble-shoot it some more I'll provide beer and pizza.

For now I decided to just splice right into the ignition so I could at least get the headlight and the rear running lights to stay on, but that doesn't help me with the turn signals and brake light (although the fact that the brights toggle my rear light allows me to manually flash my brake light when I am stopping).

The fixtures i made for the lights came out really sweet though. True to my form, I made everything with just a hacksaw and a rasp. I'll post some pics later.

The bike is registered and insured and has DC tags so I am ready to take it out to the next meetup or go for a quick ride if anyone is interested.

Wow... Well it sounds a bit like they managed to reverse the front and rear of the harness... But the connectors going to the rear should be 5 pin, and the one to the headlight should be a 4 pin...

At least your bike is running.. ish. I've got my own electrical demons right now that make my bike a 400 lbs paperweight

Hey Rod,
I want to see this bad boy. Pics? My humble advice, if I understood you correctly and you've run the lights through the ignition, is to add a relay in there so all the juice isn't going through the switch (maybe your headlights already have this). The power from the switch should just be the trigger and the main power can just come off the battery (with an inline fuse) through the relay and into your lights.

Sorry, I mis-spoke there. What I actually did was tap into the wire coming out of the fuse box that is supposed to be for the headlights. So I think I am safe in that it should already be going through whatever relays and fuses are appropriate for the headlight.

I also got a 140db air horn I need to install at some point if I can ever figure out the root of this electrical issue. Hit me up with a PM or a phone call if you ever want to stop by and check it out. Now we can go out to a bar without looking like douchebags with matching motorcycles (I will continue to be a douchebag for various other reasons though).

Except I'll ride MY supersport and then we can be DBs together again. Maybe we can meet up next week with the rest of the CAM crowd should they want to do a DC thang.
