excessive oil under valve cover

i decided to take a peek at my valves today and decided to look at the horizontal first. i removed the bolts on the lower valve cover and as they loosened oil started seeping out ,normal i thought. well i kept on going and before the last one was out a gush of oil spilled all over the ground, about half a cup full, i kind of freaked out as oil isnt cheap and just put new oil in so i re tightened and came here,  should i just pull it off and let the rest of it drain? or is there a problem i should know about?

No worries, it's normal for some oil to accumulate there.
