Getting M1100s Track-Day Ready

Hi guys,

My wife and I would like to go on a track with the M1100s. What do you recommend changing?

We have Michelin Pure installed; have the front and rear stands; tire warmers; laptimer etc. (everything from the 999s). We also have a set of speedymoto sliders (front/rear axel plus frame; haven't it installed yet).

We will remove mirrors, indicators, number plate locator etc. In addition, I would like to take off the headlight, which is easy in general (incl indicators). Yet, the headlight and the control unit is one piece and I expect you'll need to keep the control unit. I can imagine buying some plastic cover for the front (I have a round cover in mind where you can stick on a racing number or summin; haven't looked into it though; any ideas?). However, what do you do with the control unit?

I'd say leave the all the lights on, just tape them up and go.  Otherwise sounds like you have it covered.  Enjoy.

I used to track a monster.  If you get aggressive, the shifter, pegs, and kickstand will be scraping tarmac.

Thanks for the infos! I will do the side-stand, will have additional clutch lever and break lever for the handlebar with me (just in case). I will also install handlebar weights to protect the levers.

I'm still searching for a solution for the headlight / control unit. Either some sort of plastic coverage that protects the headlight (and I will keep everything in place) OR I will remove everything but the control unit (but where to fix the control unit and what front cover would go with the M1100?). Any ideas for that part would be welcome!

the headlight can be removed from the bezel.
the bezel is what holds the control unit.
in stock configuration your rear break and shift levers WILL touch down.
the dash (control unit) is $1000 dollars to replace dont crack the lcd  . lol
i think this bike could really use a steering damper for the track.
tape up the lights they are the cheapest part of the equation besides we all like excuises to mod!

the bracket to hold the gauge unit is easy to make. get some thick aluminum or steel and make a flat bracket that fits the four mounting points on the back of the gauge (you'll see the shape needed if you use some construction paper to make a template-don't forget the gauge connector), then bend it up about 15-20 deg or more depending on how you see fit.
you can use the two upper mounting bolts under the top triple of the headlight bezel to mount the new bracket.

for the kickstand. you can remove the kickstand off the bracket, but if you remove the bracket you'll need a spacer to remount the rearsets.
