I have found a 2006 S2R 800.

The good: Brand new tank due to the swelling issue installed within the past three months. New rear tire. Bike fired right up and idled/revved nice. Stock.

The bad: Evidence of being dropped on right side....lower clutch cover scratched as is bar end and mirror. Needs new front tire. 29k miles. No red key! Owner bought from a buddy who was moving out of state and needed the money. No maintenance records in hand but possibly at dealer, I'm wondering.

So what's the concensus? Owner asking $4250. I know some would say pass on the red key issue alone. Bike has been on market a good while so possibly a good deal could be struck that might make it a good buy, don't know. This bike would share duty with my 748 and 1100RT so I'm not too worried about the miles on it. Will be used primarily for 100-200 mile, at most, back road rides few times a month. Have been wanting a Monster for a good time so thought I'd throw this one out for input.

TIA!

call desmoporsche in Houston (AKA southwest superbikes) for the re-flashed ECU.  if I'm  not mistaken you can get the one on the bike re-flashed for about $250.  all this if you're dead set on the S2r

+1

The price is ok for a stock bike that has been dropped.

Looks like two votes to pass due to lack of red key. Muskrat, have you had any first hand experience with desmoporsche in getting the reflash on the ECU done? Sounds like a viable option. I'm still watching this bike. I won't be surprised if the price doesn't drop some more. Bikes seem to be hanging around quite a while these days. Especially Ducatis for some reason.

My 2 cents...

I bought my 06 S2R800 last September (A year ago this weekend!).  15K, needed the service, had been dropped on gravel with some rash on clutch cover and a small chip in tank, many aftermarket goodies, red-key and records.  $4000 in Los Angeles area.  My advice is to pass on the 800, save up some more money, and find a decent S2R 1000.

not me personally but know others who have.  I dropped in on the dealer while in Houston a while back and spoke to the guys about it at length.  Give them a call and see if it's viable for you before making a decision.  The folks I know who did this have been happy so far.

Don't know why people get so hung up about the red key - I've never used mine and, as you know, if it becomes an issue the dealer can flash the ECU.  I wouldn't make the lack of a red key the deciding factor.

If anything you might want to hold out for the S2R 1000, better brakes.  I'm happy with the 800 but now that I have it I realize I would have gotten a better bike with the 1000.
