weatherproof bits under the side covers?
«

I pulled my side covers off today in hopes of mounting the Ventura bag system that I purchased from somebody on here, but w/o success as I think I am missing a piece.
That being said, I was wondering if the electrical pieces that are hidden by the side covers are actually weatherproof? I sorta like the way the bike looks W/O the side panels in place... it makes it a little more naked looking.
Those of you who are running no side panels, did you have to do anything to protect the electrical bits from weather or any other wear/tear?
Thanks!

It ook those side covers off and relocated those bits up under the seat with zip ties to hold them in place. I havn't had a problem, just make sure that if you move them there is NO WAY the suspesion can crush or rub or even touch them, not a good thing at high speed for bits (of any kind) to be getting crushed between two pieces of unforgiving metal. Sorry, I don't have pics of it, and with this being finals week I'm not going to have the time to take them or post them either. Maybe next week.

21000 miles, no side panels, no relocation of electrical, no problems... tho I don't usually ride in the rain. But, some unexpected downpours, and numerous cleanings with no issues.

On my dirtbikes, I remove as many connections as I can see(one at a time) and put di-electric grease in them, some in the spark plus wire socket as well. I have started the same ritual on the 796 while I have the seat off!

good idea, perhaps i should start doing that as well... every connection?
does the di-electric grease prevent from the connections from shorting from water?
