'95 900SS motor into a 2000 750 Monster?

Yes, I have one lying around. I don't have my monster, yet. But I was just wondering if anyone had done that. One caveat- the 900ss is fuel injected, and the Monster motor is carbed. Am I just asking for trouble?

I like the Terblanche SS...and it's a much better track bike.

I guess 'cos of all of the noises the SS made when I would turn the key I assumed it was FI...
Now I feel like an idiot...

1995 SS900's had a low-pressure electric in-tank pump that sounds like a high pressure pump so maybe that's where you were confused.
As far as the swap goes, here's the skinny:
The '95 will have 10mm engine mounting bolts same as the 1993 to 2000 Monsters do. In 2001, Ducati made the change to 12mm bolts.
You can use the intake manifolds from the SS900 and the carbs too.
Monster 750 fuel pump will work w/a 900 engine so you're good there too.
Monster air-box will work too.
Monster 750 has a 4.5" rear wheel w/a 17mm rear axle up to & including 2001 so if you can score the '95 SS900 rear wheel it'll swap onto the Monster chassis. If not (no rear wheel), then you'll have to flip over the front sprocket so it will be closer to lining up w/the rear on the 4.5" wheel. (checking alignment is recommended w/any engine swap).
'95 had a single phase charging system (two yellow wires out of the LH engine cover). 2000 M750 had a 3 phase charging system (3 yellow wires going into the regulator). Simply connect the two out of the '95 alternator to *ANY* two of the 3 on the regulator and you're good.
You *WILL* need a Monster 900 header as they're different than the SS900's. If you can cut/weld or have it done, perhaps someone could re-do the SS900 header for you.

Duck Stew-
This is sounding better and better. I DO have the rear wheel. I actually have BOTH wheels with new Michelin Pilot rubber. It will fit in the Monster swingarm?
Now- something in the charging system was all f***ed up with the 900ss (the battery would dump). Can I use the Monster charging system?
I will probably have a mechanic help me significantly. While I have been doing some of my own wrenching when it comes to things like mods, I am a newbie when it comes to actually working on motors and such. But I think with some help, I could swing this.
Thanks in advance for your help!!!

Chances are the regulator is bad on the SS.
The crankshaft is different on the 2 and 3 phase motors so you can't swap components.

So then I should source a new regulator?
Maybe this could be my winter project...

They aren't that hard to come by. You can get an aftermarket unit in the $100 range. Electrex and Rick's are two brands I'm familiar with. I've had a Rick's in mine for years.
I think I'd make the swap and get the thing running so you can diagnose the problem properly before I started buying parts.
If you check in tech or do a search there are some threads about testing the various charging system parts. You could do the bench stuff up front.

Me thinks this is a winter project...
If the paint weren't stained on the wheels from the 900ss, I would keep them yellow. I don't know if the front would clear the fender (because of the slightly bigger tyre). Now I wish I would have kept a few more of the parts from the 900ss...

The front wheel from the SS will be fine.
