The front wheel from the SS will be fine.
Nope. Ducati changed to a 25mm front axle for the 2000 - 2008 Monsters. 1993-1999 Monsters had the 20mm axle same as the SS's from 1993 - 1998.
If you test and find that you do need a stator (charging alternator) I have one available in the Parts For Sale section... Just sayin'...

So then I would have a mis-matched set of wheels. Well, the design is the same, anyways...
I guess I need to start testing some parts...

Rearsets mount onto the engine, right? That means I am going to have to get some rearsets, as I know the Monster ones won't fit. Maybe the 900ss engine will have to go bye-bye, as this could just be the beginning of a never-finished project/money pit.

Now I am an idiot... I can just drop this engine into the frame and basically have everything I need mount up with little fuss? Yes, I am asking the question again because I want to make certain this is what I want to do.
I don't mind doing a little extra work, but if I have to fabricate stuff and deal with mis-matched parts, I may end up with another unridable mess!!! That's what the Kawa turned into...

The motor will drop right in. The motor mount bolt size is different, but you can open up the cases on the 900.
You will need the 900 carbs as there are some minor differences in them between 750 and 900 aside from jetting.
You will also need to fix the 900 charging system as the parts won't swap.
The rear wheel from the SS will bolt right on using all the pieces from the SS.
This really shouldn't be too big of a deal.
Keep in mind if the 900 has been sitting you may have some issues related to any engine sitting. You will definitely need to put fresh belts on the 900

It has sat for about three months.
Yeah- it could probably use a good going over, anyways...

3 months isn't bad.
If your belts are more than 2 years old you need new ones.

Can I use the swingarm from the Monster or do I have to source a 900ss one?

Just swap the motor and rear wheel/sprocket carrier and be happy.
An SS swingarm won't fit a monster frame because of the shock linkage.
The swap you're doing is really very simple. Try not to over think it.

2000 Monsters have 10mm engine mounting bolts same as the 1995 SS did. In 2001, Ducati went to the 12mm ones. Humorless dp is right about the rest of his comments.

I misread your earlier post about the bolts Stu...
glad you're around to point me straight.

Okay- you've convinced me. I may even try it sooner than later...
Any hints on swapping out the belts? Is there a section on this forum for doing that?
