Please tell me this is not the future of motorcycle design . . .

The above is just some concept some bored industrial designer made. But some how it made me think of the new Ducati model as well as the HD V-Rod. Is this where moto design is headed? Will poser douchiness be expressed not in chrome but in overly full fairing that looks like the Tron bike make the beast with two backsed a Ferrari?

Like it or hate it? Perhaps the concept of a completely wrapped bike isn't so bad. I just haven't see one I like yet.

HATERS GONNA HATE.

Hm... I don't hate it as a thing to put in a room and gawk at while discussing the economy over cocktails with other self-important assholes.

But I do kinda hate it as a motorcycle.

As far as being the future of bike design, I don't think we need to worry.

Reminds me of the one in Akira. It worked there... but then again, that was a cartoon.  ;D

Why the full body cladding?  To hide everything beneath it and thus the engineers don't have to worry about what it looks like then.  The bean counters rejoice as they then don't have to budget to make the engine, etc look "pretty".

First bike (I remember!) with the "hide everything" mantra was the Bimota db1 -- it's ugly beneath. (but I personally love the exterior)  Then the Ducati Paso series with full enveloping bodywork but with Italian style.  Then the Japanese went crazy with it starting with the 1987 Honda CBR600 Hurricane series. (Interceptors were beautiful -- the Hurricane was hideous)  Ultimate culmination of this was the white color Honda "Pacific Coast" -- and unfortunately others have followed since.

You will see the same in the LEV / electric motorcycle market as well -- hide everything beneath plastic and mimic a kitchen aid appliance.  Very few manufacturers are designing in such a way to make their electric platforms look great and like a "motorcycle".

One of those classics I've somehow managed to never see.

It's on "the list."
