it's for 02 998

So this happened 3 times. I usually kill the bike at the stop light because of overheating issue.

I tried to start it right away but it wasn't starting. the battery got dead because I used starter too much.

I had to jump it from the car and it took like 10 minutes.

at 4th time, I started the bike and killed it for a sec to fix my clothe. now it won't start at all.

it just doesn't get gas. I don't smell gas from the exhaust.

the bike came with the power commander but I don't know how that thing works.

When I was riding a bike, occasionally I felt low power. (rpm doesn't go up, accelerate slowly)
I felt like it wasn't getting enough gas. I used to just rev it up high hoping that it would help the bike sucking the gas easier :(

so should I lift the tank and start from fuel filter?

I'd charge the battery first and then see if the pump cycles.

The filter is in the tank. If you replace it make sure you get a new o-ring for the pump flange.

if it's a gas issue, I would think it's the pump.

Cheap easy stuff first.  As dp said, charge and check battery.  Also fuses.  Then note if you hear the pump.  If not, the next suspect is the fuel pump relay and circuit.  If so, inspect the fuel lines in the tank for leaks.  While you are in there it is a good idea to change the filter.

So I got it started. It was sitting there 5 days, maybe fuel deicded to come down? lol

I am not sure if the battery caused the problem. When I failed to start it,  I connected jumper cable to my car battery. (I waited too)

So I was doing test drive on highway and I felt this 'low power' issue again.
It felt like something was clogged.

it runs fine now but I don't know when this will happen again since it happened 4 times before.

can the battery cause this low power problem?

Howie

Yes it could.  Is that your problem? Dunno.  A good way to find out is to:

Fully charge the battery and have it load tested to rule that out.
Then check the charging system    http://www.electrosport.com/technical-resources/diagnosis-center/fault-finding-guide
