Back Firing and Spitting flames out the exhaust

Hi Guys, am wondering if anyone can lend any assistance.

I have installed a Mid Pipe on my 2004 S4R to get rid of the cat. New header gaskets and silastic to ensure no exhaust leak.
At the same time i took it in for a major service, belts and a tune.
There is definetly a power increase since the tune, however it is popping and farting a lot on Decel and throwing some largish flames out my Termi Exhaust. I am a little concerned about this.

Any info would be appreciated.

Normally the backfiring is due to an exhaust leak.

Did you replace the doughnut type gaskets in the header to midpipe connection also?

As far as I know it hasn't. Just silastic was used to seal it. It's a tight fit from the mid pipe to header as it is, I'm unsure if the gasket will fit.

That joint was always a problem. I haven't heard anyone that has had success with just sealer.

Old school tuning says lean pop comes out the intake and rich pop comes out the exhaust. If you hang around the track  you find alot of bikes tuned like yours and I prefer that state of tune and enjoy the flames at night . You could lean it out and the e.p.a. will like you for it  but horsepower may go down slightly and heat goes up slightly.

You really need the mesh gasket.  It's a beyotch to fit, but should do the trick.
