4.5 to 5.5 wheel conversion

I want to put a 5.5 rear wheel on my 05 620, I understand that is not just a straight swap. Has anyone got the details on what's required to make this work?
Searched but can't seem to find it posted before

Aftermarket vs. OE wheels from a different model will have somewhat different requirements. In my case I just flipped the front sprocket and modified the chain slider (and wrote a big check for some trick wheels).
Know that generally speaking, upsizing the wheel on a small monster is not a performance upgrade unless you also $hed wheel/tire weight.

i put a 5.5" wheel (with a 170 tire) on a 02 M620
tight fit, but required no mods.

which cush drive did you use, the one from the 4.5" wheel or 5.5"? Also are you running a 520 chain or 525? Did you have to flip the front sprocket to align the chain run?

You have to use everything from the wheel assembly you want to swap. Meaning if you want the 5.5" you have to use the spacers and cush drive from the 5.5". and make sure you put the spacers on correctly!!! Big side goes out towards the swingarm and the little side goes to the bearing.
You might have to flip the front sprocket, but only some are offset to begin with.
You can use either 520 or 525, just make sure they're all one or the other and not mixed. The bolt pattern on the sprocket carriers are the same and if memory serves only the S4's came with the 525.
Also remember, for the monsters there were 2 different size axles. 1993-2001 (except S4) were the smaller (don't remember if it's 17mm or 20mm) and 2002 to when ever they stopped making DSS's (incl. the 2001 S4) are all 25mm. I think the SS's kept using the smaller axle till about 2003 and the ST's were always 25mm. <-- any complete assembly will work for a monster swap.
The bigger tire will slow down the steering and add weight.

I'm doing it merely for cosmetics and tire choices. Hard to find good tires in a 160. I'm going to place a 180/55/17 on the rear.
Now the "spacer" you mention is just the one washer that goes on the cush drive side correct? I don't recall any spacer or washer on the brake rotor side. Correct me if I'm wrong. If anyone could also post some pics of a 5.5" with a 180 tire pics on Monsters. (rear shots)

Hard to find good tires in a 160??? With a few exceptions, I think the options are quite good in the 160 size. But I do agree that 180 is the single most common size. Not all shops actually stock/list all sizes but you can go to the mfg site to determine specific model availability. Also, if the upsize is just for cosmetics, some 160 tires look nearly as fat as some 180 tires and vice-versa. Maybe you can save a few bucks by fitting a fat 160? I have some 180 pics in the 5.5" thread linked above.
